Multi-monitor trouble lol

Hey guys:

As many of you already know, Im using a multimonitor setup, well, LCD+Projector. I'm using a geforce fx5200 that has dvi (connected to projector via dvi-2-hdmi) and then the main screen (this Nec connected to the vga connector).

My projector is set so that whenever I use a video player (oddly... browser-based videos dont work) I get the output on my projector, which is neat to watch movies and such.

Some days ago a friend came by with a CD with pictures of his daugher and we thought of watching them on the projector. So, I just 'moved' my explorer window and at a given moment we needed to use firefox so I moved it there as well, double click and voila, full screen on projector.

Ok, here comes the problem.

I dont have the projector turned on all the time, so, next day, daylight hours (in which projector doenst do well since my family room is well lit - by the sun btw), I come to use the computer, load up firefox and voila!!!! noshow. I noticed that whenever I minimized it (by clicking on the taskbar item) it would make an animation as if it were on the other monitor (projector).

No big deal I thought, I simply put the mouse on the top of my main screen, slide to the right, double click, then back to main screen, right click on taskbar item and choose 'move' and then use the keys to simply drag it back to the mainscreen. I did this with the explorer window as well (my computer).

The problem is, once I maximize the explorer window it will remain there, as it should, but firefox, next time I load it up it goes again to the secondary screen, and everytime I boot up, is back to the secondary screen. I can move it back, but its becoming a nuissance.

Any idea on what to do so that it DOESNT MOVE THE HELL AGAIN????

(deep breath)

Ok, I'm calmed again. Any ideas? :)

Connecting a SSD to a SATA MB

Hey all:

Just would like to know if somebody has seen somewhere how can you hook up a SSD drive to a desktop motherboard (sata or ide). Far as I seen, articles refer to their 2.5" size and both sata and ide interface but I cant get a picture that can clear my mind and allow me to make a decision.

Since I read a review on the technology I've wanted to see how windows/linux would perform from a Solid State Drive, even though their prices are still high to my liking. I've seen some price drops lately and 32gb SSDs are going as low as $99 (perhaps even lower). From what I could gather so far, read processes are fastest on this type of disk, but they suffer on the write side (random writes is what the article called it). I'm thinking that running windows or ubuntu in one of them, 8gig or 16 is good enough to just run the OS.

The data you can keep at an IDE/SATA drive.

What I havent seen around yet... is how to connect it. If anyone finds something pls let me know.

Thanks

Apartment robbed, computer stolen, excuse to build a new one!

So two Friday's ago my apartment got robbed. We didn't have insurance and they pretty much made off with anything valuable that wasn't bolted down or hidden well. It's taken awhile to get over the uncomfortable feeling in the apartment, but now I need to look forward and start thinking of my next computer. Image: http://boards.aqmilitis.com/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

So I'm in a summer session Genetics course that will finish off my BS in Biology degree and I figure I'm entitled to a graduation gift of a new computer. My dad felt bad about the robbery and offered to buy me something at Sam's Club but if I'm really lucky, I might be able to convince him to give me the cash instead and build my own.

Two questions really:

1) Are the computer's at Sam's Club going to satisfy me? If graphics cards are the main bottleneck for games these days, I should be okay with an HP that has a PCI Express slot, right?

2) If I go home-built, I'd like to get either a Core 2 Duo or Quad. I've heard that a fast Duo is better for gaming than an equally priced Quad, but I really think I'm not a "hardcore" enough of a gamer to need the processor speed. I know that Intel's chips overclock easily, so should I get a Q6600 or an AMD Phenom X3 or X4? The AMD's are significantly cheaper, but I wouldn't be able to overclock them as much. Then again, I'll most likely install it, let it run stock for 3 years, then try to push it as it becomes out of date.

Sidenote: The things stolen included my Xbox, my 50" Samsung DLP, my PC, my games, and odds and ends like my laundry hamper, hair gel, Braun Activator, and Percoset/Oxycontin. Should have had insurance, but we kept planning on moving out every 6 month lease renewal, and most of the things were gifts. At least now I have some things to register for, for the wedding (Feb 28th).

Computer hardware frustration

I am so unbelievably frustrated right now. A few day ago (after I put in some time off to get some quality gaming time in), my mouse started acting up. Sometimes it was fine and then the cursor would start sticking. I thought it was something with the game I was playing, but after I shut the game down one of those times, the mouse continued to act freaky.

What was happening was if I put my mouse on the right side of the screen and moved it towards the left, the mouse would stick, and then half a second to a second later it would jump to where it would have ended up if it didn't stick. Since it was sticky most in the right to left motion, I thought it might be the mouse.

Of course, I cleaned the laser and the desktop/thing I was using for a mouse pad, and though sometimes it seemed to help it certainly didn't fix the problem. So, I went and I stole my mouse from work and tried it. For the most part, it seemed to fix the problem, though it did jump around from time to time. It never stuck though, and so I was pretty confident the problem had been my old mouse.

So, today I went to Best Buy and bought myself a Razer Lachesis for about 80 bucks and a new mouse pad. Not 15 minutes after install and into the game the sticking problem returned.
:bash:
The unbelievably frustrating part is that I can't diagnose the problem, and that makes it very hard to make the problem go away. Equally frustrating is that it destroys my gaming experience and I had 3 days off planned this week that I had earmarked for gaming.

I'm at a complete loss. Meanwhile, I'm running Ad-Aware on the off chance that's the problem, and the damn thing won't update. :bash:

It doesn't look like he has any financial backing yet. Probably because the cost will be prohibitive. Still, I want one.
