30 second log out?
Do you think Jumpgate Evolution should adopt the 30 second log out policy that other MMO seem to have accepted as standard? i.e. if you survive for those 30 seconds you disappear and become invulnerable and start there when you log back in. Or, should it be more like the current Jumpgate, in where if you stay logged out for too long you're returned to your last dock?

Re: 30 second log out?
I like logout/login in space. It seems to me that 30-seconds is a bit short -- it seems to me would be a (dare I say it?) winbutton for Guardian-equipped freighters who are under attack by pirates or who are being attacked because of stripping or other similar practice of lameology.
I do like the concept, though, since it negates the "go deep and log off" tactic. |

Re: 30 second log out?
30 seconds is way to short. The current 5(?) minutes is better*.
I don't see a huge problem with returning to your last dock after that length of time. I could see arguments that go either way. For example, "It's exploiting if you are a million billion k out and /q to a dock" or "It's exploiting if you go to some special place in preparation of some special event, then reverse /q back into the game, where it is." *Uh, I really don't recall how broken the disco code is atm, I know it's been haywire for over a year. I'm referring to it as it used to work (except when flux autokilled you). |

Re: 30 second log out?
If you take damage the counter resets. Thats how it is in Planetside. I can't speak for other MMOs as I have never been jumped at logout. Also make it so you can't be moving and the counter starts after gate invulnerability. Logout anywhere would be very nice. The "Must be at a station" rule makes Jumpgate Classic a bit inconvenient.
On the other hand, there is the possibility of a login/logout ambush. Not very fair. |

Re: 30 second log out?
If they are going to have multiple characters then they need to cancel each other out for this feature. If you log out in space then log into another character then the prior one needs to be booted back to station. But even that's exploitable.

Re: 30 second log out?
I hate to sound like an ass, but everytime someone comes up with an idea to implement that wasn't in Jumpgate Classic you guys seem to only concentrate on saying its too exploitable instead of figuring how could we make it work because honestly almost anything can be exploited if you sit there and think about how to do it for long enough. Get out of your little repetative worlds and realize it is going to be a "new" game and they most likely want a larger player base so that means some accomodations have to be made. Wouldn't you rather them consider your ideas because you thought of ways to fit things in rather then then just pick whatever because you hated all the "new" ideas put forward? Sorry for my small rant its just getting kind of annoying.

Re: 30 second log out?
We only get into 'exploitable' discussions because some of us have a loooong history with the game, know how it works in and out and how it can be taken advantage of. We are all trying to suggest new feature for Jumpgate Evolution that will make it better or more fun, but to do that we have to narrow down how it would be used or created so it will be fun for everyone. If we didnt care about the game, we would sit down and shutup, wait for the feature and exploit the hell out of it.

Re: 30 second log out?
I'm going to back up the new guy a bit. It's way too easy to say "that would be exploitable." I've yet to see anyone point out how a logout timer where you reappear in the same place you logged out is any more exploitable than the 'if you don't log back in for 5 minutes you get teleported to a station' system in Jumpgate.
