2. The value of death, as I understand it, will vary according to experience level. 3. Safe Zones are still being discussed. I do not advocate Safe Zones. If they are indeed brought into the game, I think it should be level based. Sure we will have a couple Meepyl's flying their Premia's of Doom kicking butt; however, I think this is a good idea for Faction Core stations only (Hyp, Sol, Oct, and Q Core only).... Going forward I strongly suggest we dont make this a showstopper... Evolution needs to kinda get going.... During the beta we can figure these Safe Zone concepts out (remember there is gonna be a ton of AI flying around too) why bitch about it now? *Places thread back on topic* |

Re: Asshattery in Jumpgate Evolution
Just hypothesizing here, humor me.
I know that all the factions had their "police" who did their job as well as OEC did. That really was the role that we chose in general though we would engage in "conflict" outside of our boundaries. Our primary job as we took upon ourselves was to protect the borders, interests and sovereignty of the Octavian Empire from all enemies, both foreign and domestic ![]() With that said, while these "police" forces did exist, civ-ripping and asshattery did occur, but these acts were generally met with coordinated response. I am sure the same existed in Solrain and Quantar space. So (this is the hypothesizing part), the vocal proponents of safe zones..what is really driving them. Did they join/fly after the era of policed factional space? Did they alienate all those that would/should come to their aid by offensive behavior and attitudes? Or did they simply engage in overtly risky behavior and not call upon those that would with glee descend upon the oppressed and unjustly treated? A solid counter argument could be made that it is easy for me to speak as I was a part of a large "militaristic" squad that actively maintained a patrolling presence in Octavian space. That would be true. I still remember the moment when as a new pilot, making my way from Oct Core to Outpost Station, I passed an OEC ship in every sector whom hailed me with a standardized hailing macro of "This is OEC Delta 1 on routine patrol". After 3 sectors of that I knew that I wanted to be a part of that. Even if I had not joined them, I know that I would not have hesitated to contact the first OEC pilot that I saw following what I would have felt was an unjustified civ-rip. We hear alot from the pilots whom were either part of a large "policing" squad or those whom engaged in less than polite activities in this thread, but what about those that were neither. Were you truly unprotected and felt that no one would come to your aid should you require it and attempt to punish and contain those that would take advantage of the freedom granted by the environment? |

ND set up miners and haulers to be victims, sheep, and something for the pvpers to toy with in Jumpgate Classic. It's not surprising that when an asshat brought that realization to those players they decided to move on. Mind you, civ ripping certainly wasn't the only form of asshattery in Jumpgate Classic, but it was the easiest to see. What's I will find curious is how much asshattery gets protected by the safezones. |
