Unless they decide the discription of Jumpgate Evolution is different then what's on Jossh for Jumpgate....and put it in writing...I assume they'll be using the same anglie....

So I hardly see how the RP of your character should be taken into account...they went to Extra measures to let people know Jumpgate is not a RPG, it's a flight sim. I mean, they couldn't have been more clear.

So IMO, you are responsible for your actions. Not some fake personality you choose to make up. I choose not to participate in your RP. I wonder if they'll provide a server for people who only want consensual RP....and one for non-consensual....they have to shard anyhow and consensual vs. non seems to be the focal point.

While I think it's silly to think anyone pretending to be a space pilot isn't role playing...I do agree they should have separate servers for people that like to say "Thou hadst offendeth milady" and such.

Any game you enter, you're automatically roll playing. You might act as yourself when piloting that space ship, or you might pretend to be someone else, but you're still piloting a space ship.

Being immersed into the game is something every game wants to accomplish, no matter the genre. And I'd rather we all pretended we were space pilots rather then normal humans playing a computer game. It helps with MY immersion of the game and community.

Not everyone wishes to RP, and that's cool. But I see no reason to ban it from the game or create seperate servers for it.

However, with that said it's still kinda lame to act like a medieval Knight since they kinda act and talk 'faggy', but hey, whatever rocks your boat.

Dont get why most mmorpg players think combat needs to be like it is in wow or Ao or any other similar type of game, to be called a RPG.

And it has grown in to so much more (ok its a bit old and tired now ) but some of my best memories in Jumpgate involved RP or an RP driven FM.

I really do hope that Evolution doesn’t lose the sense of RP. From its core, to have to go onto a shard ( oh I feel ill just typing that word ) that is the only place you can RP but they people on it are all talking IC 24/7 would suck.

I understand there are people who like to role play their character even though this is a space flight sim. To me though....I never enter the game. This is not the matrix. I'm a guy sitting at a computer desk with a computer joystick in my hand watching pretty lights on a monitor and occasionally chatting or talking with other people. I am NOT piloting a space ship, I'm controlling a computer simulation. I understand that some people like to , and I don't begrudge them the ability to do that.

I'm not saying it should be banned from the game, but if they're going to create separate servers for people who want and don't want consensual PvP then why can't they do the same for role playing?

Since the game is based on YOUR skills and not the skills of your pilot you can create a new character, use it to terrorize people....delete it...recreate it...and repeat. It won't be very hard and no matter what they wipe from your character your skill will stay with you. I want to know my opponent and would like the option to be able to identify someone no matter if they're pretending to be a different person or not. What if they did something I found personally offensive and I want to block them? Why shouldn't I have the option to identify who you are and block every one of your characters? Or not deal with you at all because I don't like the way you handle yourself? It's fine that you want to RP, and that's why they should have a RP server....one where if you attack another character's second pilot because of something the first did then you can get warned/banned/whatever from the RP server. But I want to fly against the other HUMAN sitting at the controls, and I should be given that option too.

Do you really think that the thing that's holding jumpgate back from having a larger following is that people can't make multiple pilots on one account? Most people don't even have the time to learn the piloting skills themselves...hence the "easier" keyboard and mouse controls they're adding, let alone level multiple pilots! And you don't have to talk in some space lingo to role play. You just have to be willing to have that whole "suspension of disbelief" thing.

I wasn't talking about combat, I was simply quoting that they weren't trying to make a RPG. So your comment would be more suited to the developers who wrote that statement, they specifically CHOSE to say they weren't an RPG.

I'm talking about Role playing and how it doesn't fit this game because your character is based on YOUR skill, not that of your character for the most part. SO you're playing the role of you, the guy who's good at flight sim games, not the role of "Joe the noob pirate" because Joe wouldn't be able to fly as well as a Triple Optimus with 7 years of game experience.

And there's nothing wrong with you liking the RP part of your playstyle, but just like there's no reason some people should have to deal with non consensual PvP, there's no reason I should have to deal with people who think they can be asshats and use "it's my RP" as an excuse.

A RP server doesn't have to be people speaking as futuristic space pirates and yelling Yarr all the time. But it would be where you can't chase after someone's other characters for what their main did to you.

As long as it's getting sharded, why not make a server where people can fly against other people....and not against their characters? Just don't play on that server if it's not your thing! It's just like how people who don't want the PvE aspect simply don't have to play on the PvE server. I fail to see how the two arguments can be separated....they're based on the same rationale of letting people play the way they want and keeping people of different viewpoints in separate servers.
