Good luck having a small GM team able to keep up with 2500 people. Then of coarse when you get the GMs banning people, you get the uproar from the rest of the people, and a downhill slide from there. It happened in the past, it will happen again.

Exactly. We don't need babysitters, we just need the ability and tools to police ourselves, with proper downsides to being an "asshat", a proper bounty system, reasons for people to collect the bounty other than "ohh I got some money", and most of all, removing the ability of an asshat from being able to hide from his actions.

Re: Asshattery in Jumpgate Evolution

Do you think that making those evil greifer people we are referring to stay logged in and in flight 24/7 would be needed to keep them from hiding? I think that'd be a neat way to keep people form being pricks. You do the prick thing and you can't dock or log out! And if you pull the plug on your internet then the game keeps you logged in and announces on KTRI your location for all to come kill you repeatedly. (Okay, I guess maybe that might be too extreme).

Re: Asshattery in Jumpgate Evolution

No we don't dail, its a game, not a sleepover.

With proper game mechanics the players become the police and the ol' way of keeping people in line is resurrected.

As for keeping people in flight, I don't know about that, but keeping people with a bounty from docking at faction stations would be a start. But then how do they work off the bounty?

Re: Asshattery in Jumpgate Evolution

Players dont police. Players judge, and take sides... o hang on, so do the police... so let the mechanics police. AI isnt developed enough yet to take offence, or choose sides. But by fixed rules it can police.

What if I take a home bounty on an oct member of a sol/quant squad? Mechanics can't tell the difference. How about a GM? Am I supposed to fill out an AAR? Spend 20 minutes dealing with him in whispers? What if he really likes me?

Mechanics are limiting, GMs aren't a solution. Hard as we try, we can't go home again to just post-release. Sad.

Nothing more fun than waiting outside DireCoyote's POS for him to launch. Yep. That's my idea of a great online game right there.

Re: Asshattery in Jumpgate Evolution

Yeah that was always one of the biggest problems with "asshats", myself being one of them.

After a civ-rip, you dock at the closest station, log off for one hour, then come back and do it again.

No way I can think of to stop that

Re: Asshattery in Jumpgate Evolution

i really dont understand what the big deal with these asshats is, its an online game and whether players police themselves or game mechanics do all the dirty work people will always find a way to be an ass (hat) to others.

and ND has already said there will be both a PVP and PVE server to please both sides.
