Re: Beta: What would be best for Jumpgate Evolution?
I'm voting for the early option. I'm a little worried by some of the comments about new pilots repeatedly crashing when trying to dock, about being unable to follow a target etc and perhaps unduly causing ND to simplify the game.
I don't remember finding these things difficult as a noob but that may be because I like space flight sims and had played many of them before I found Jumpgate. I am in fact a member of their target group as are most of you. The people that they have testing, that can't dock or fly, sound as if they've never played this type of game, presumably because they are not overly interested in the genre. Are these really the players the game will attract. But the fact is they are the ones influencing the development of the game at a very basic stage not us. The sooner they get testers that love and understand the game the better. We know what worked in Classic, we know this perhaps better than the devs, and the fact that we do love this game would make us patient and willing collaborators in making the best Space Sim ever. |

LOL, that assumes a level of caring what made Jumpgate, Jumpgate. The overriding factor has to be what will make Jumpgate Evolution $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Re: Beta: What would be best for Jumpgate Evolution?
I would think they want to maximize revenue potential and will do what they believe is necessary to do so.
I believe that Jumpgate Classic is an awesome game platform that I love. I also believe that the Jumpgate platform presents a level of difficulty that is uninteresting to the broad gaming community. The very thing that makes Jumpgate awesome for me is the very thing that would prevent it from being a major MMO. I don't pretend to be a gaming industry whiz (though I will claim to be pretty savvy at general business and consumer marketing) -- so I could be way off the mark. But this is my opinion based on observation of other gamers as well as my observation of Gen-X and Gen-Y attitudes and behaviors. |

I also am not certain that it was a standard MMO with a car gimmick as I never personally played it. Based on what I read about it from various official outlets and a couple of people that did play it however, that's pretty much what it was. Quote:
Simulationists will be attracted to the game because it will look like a flight sim, but will be turned off by the not losing gear when your ships explodes, the unreasonable ship design of lower level ships (as levels don't really make sense in simulation). Counterstrike people will be attracted to the game because of the twitch aspect, but if they have to grind too long to get the right ship and gear to PvP they'll bail. I suspect RTS people are the ones who enjoy the crafting most in MMOs, and they may get to keep them around for awhile until Starcraft 2 comes out. It just seems to me that rather than pulling the simulation people, the counterstrike people, and the RTS people into playing MMOs, they're leaning more towards the MMO audience that is mostly spoken for and/or trying to please too many people a little bit. Of course, as a long time Jumpgate player, I'm just really disappointed they won't be making the game we've all seen the that Jumpgate had the potential to become....because whether Jumpgate Evolution succeeds or fails, they aren't likely to revisit the IP. |

Re: Beta: What would be best for Jumpgate Evolution?
From a marketing standpoint? I'd agree with that, but they could have made Jumpgate Evolution with crafting, AI, and a lot of other things they're adding without sacrificing skill based PvP....and how exactly they plan to have a robust economy with gear not being lost when you die I can't even begin to imagine.
