There's also a misconception that because you happen to have good aim what you say on the forums means a flying flip more than someone who doesn't have good aim. This is, quite frankly, bullshit.

Re: Blasphemy - Maybe we do need safe zones of some sort....

On topic: I'm beginning to agree safe zones could be OK if done right (tho Ill still fight their introduction if I can). I'm even thinking that separate play style shards could be a good thing. Eeeek!!!!

But one point. My old EU squad was a supposed "carebear" squad. That meant we didn't PvP much if at all. But we all accepted the universe we were flying in and enjoyed it.

Sure, have a PvE server, but I know which shard this carebear will be flying on!

If this is just going to be an attack thread then I will have to close it.

I agree too. It's in bad class. But that doesn't stop it from happening occasionally.

Really, I dont think it's much of an issue with our small group of people. It didn't happen all that much in Jumpgate Classic to be completely honest.

However, once Jumpgate Evolution gets going, we will have a lot of asshats. So things such as this will happen. It's best just to state your opinions with respect anyway, and avoid the issue all together. However, this is not always possible. =)

Re: Blasphemy - Maybe we do need safe zones of some sort....

since we are talking about safe zones heres my two cents..I voted no,on the poll, because I think it can be better. My idea is...your home base(where noobs start) is 100% safe to learn in, then if you move 1 sector out..then NPC's can attack you. It gives you more experience in combat without real pros after you. Then the thrid sector out..open hunting or pvp/non pvp option. Challenge pvp I like better, I can seldom hit targets easily, so should I be punished by pros for it? No, there are enough npc's I have to deal with. So I'd opt out of pvp, but the safe zones would start 100% solid and then evaporate as they move out from their training area, good experience and some limited safety. That I think would work, also have the second sector they see limited to maybe lev 1&2 npc's, that way the noob ship has a chance to practise on something its size.

Chase, what you described is close to the max safe zone type feature I've ever seen in a game that featured PvP as more than just a what the heck, might as well have it available, afterthought.

It seems to me that "safe zones" and "new player protection" have become intertwined -- and IMO it should not be. I don't recall anyone having too big a problem with the current Jumpgate Classic n00b shiled that makes them immune to being ripped unless they shoot first. I suspect there would not be too much outrage if that protection was extended further. The announced safe zones seem to be made to "protect" the whiners who elect to play multiplayer games but do not want to have their little single-player activity "interfered" with. To me this latter issue is the problem. This is NOT about n00bs.

I agree with that, 100%. Protect the new players, yes....protect the whiners? Not so much.

I suspect safe zones will end up playing different roles in the PvE and PvP servers

Pretty much how I have always felt. Protect the newbs but don't protect the ass hats who can't handle interaction with real people.

But isnt it the ass hats who cant handle interaction with real people properly the reason we should have secured sectors in the first place ?.

Not all civ rippers are ass hats but a hell of a lot of ass hats are civ rippers.
