For example, someone decides to stock LL for The Gang. They don't make any money off of it, but now they can call The Gang for a quick escort through unreg, or get the gang to kill a pirate that PoDed them. Thats price
I would consider that compensation, and I'd have to look at the situation to see if I thought the value was fair.

I think we need safezones where you can post something offtopic and derail a thread without AI moderators stepping in and doing something all mean-like.

You forgot the intrigue of the deal. Of sneaking around the back space lanes to get it done on the sly. Fun stuff.

'Pay or Die' and The Gang had stockers when we were all shacking up at Lothars Landing. They were always extremely well protected. Pirates that dont protect their haulers dont get equipment. That is more then enough reason to ensure they are always protected well.

We'd drop everything to escort someone and ensure a shipment got through, and we would even escort them even if they weren't hauling equipment for us at that particular point.

How come the main point in what this thread has become doesn't get made more often? The beauty of what has been described by all of you (hauling for pirates, interacting with the bad guys etc) in a none fighting sense is what adhered me to Jumpgate so long ago. I think we've gone a long way to dismissing the PvP/PvE distinction here, something I stated years ago didn't exist as we thought it did.

Great, a thread thats turned me into a hardcore PvPer!

Agreed. Much of the beauty of Jumpgate Classic was that it was basically tabular rasa (the term, not the game). It was a universe where there was a very basic set of rusles and guidelines -- the rest was up to the occupants of that universe (us).

And hasnt it been successful.

I hate to be the one to remind everyone but if Jumpgate Evolution has safe zones not all sectors will be covered by it, so you still get to risk everything by stocking unreg stations or helping pirates/bad guys. Sometimes I get the feeling of "can't see the forest for the trees".

Of the 5 people I know who have played (1 of them) or I've tried to get to play....Not one of them had even HEARD of the game before I talked to them about it....and the ones who wouldn't play chose not to do so for reasons not related to the way they would or would not be "safe".

Admittedly, this is a small sample of people, all of them similar to me, but I think saying that it hasn't been successful due to the basic rules and guide lines is just your guess, but I could be wrong. Have you asked prospective or past players and found that they felt there weren't enough rules in the game, hence the reason they wouldn't play?

Edit: Heh, never mind.. i took it out of context.

I retract my earlier statement, and move on with my day.

I wish people would stop trying to blame Jumpgate's lack of popularity on the player base. We are not why Jumpgate has only 20-30 people online at peak times. That is pure BS.
