Re: Blasphemy - Maybe we do need safe zones of some sort....
True that.
</sarcasm on> If only the game mechanics didn't force us to beat the horse. wait.. they don't.. we do that voluntarily.. maybe that means something </sarcasm off> |

Having hundreds of active players subscribed during (and long after) the year-long wait to a poorly-implemented Ep2 counts as success in my book.

Re: Blasphemy - Maybe we do need safe zones of some sort....
iirc, the online player numbers stayed kinda stable after the release of Ep2, because people finally had SOME new content to play with... Before that, remember when every other day there was a new "Bye guys, I'm quitting because I can't wait any longer" post on the jossh forums? Then numbers slowly dwindled down after a year or two until you reach the current numbers.
As for mechanics, it's hard to quantify. Felt like your options were more open when it the system was simpler. More room to roleplay, more roleplay options. |

Re: Blasphemy - Maybe we do need safe zones of some sort....
To me this is a weird thing... we have poor online numbers yet we have one of the most loyal folks to Jumpgate... such that they keep paying even though they never go online.
It says a lot about who we are and what we support. I'd wish we had a way to know why out of 1200 folks only 200 (its a very wild guess) play. IMHO If you really love Jumpgate you should be here still, and I would also guess that if we had those folks still showing up... Jumpgate would still have great numbers today... though we'd lack still the same problems that arent player dependant... support, content, event GMs.... Still... Jumpgate would be great with even 100 folks online at the same time, but I'd still wonder what happened with the rest of the folks that keep paying but chose not to play. So I guess a thread is needed for those only that DO NOT play (but pay) to state their reasons. ELP |

I'd just be happy with 10-15 MT pilots online at night, right now, for me being a late player, there is no-one to play with.

If they would just take Jumpgate back to the code from release, with all the bugs fixed, minus the hitbox issue, and reset accounts I would probably play.

Re: Blasphemy - Maybe we do need safe zones of some sort....
For me Jumpgate was Great with 150-200 pilots online when I started on EU. Alot of stuff happend. But what made those people login night after night was because we had good GMs and many good players doing awesome RP. It felt like something was always happening.. tensions, drama, big fights,. sents, flux.. loved it.
IF 200 people login on this server at the same time.. what will happen? nothing.. maybe there will be few great fights.. but then what? Especially now with MT tags that limit the game to much. |

Re: Blasphemy - Maybe we do need safe zones of some sort....
I think another reason Jumpgate hasnt appealed to the masses is the quality of the flight model, some pilots just dont reach a good enough level to compete on either pvp or pve side and it takes a real hard head to plough through and make the best of it one way or another.
Personally i got by with a suicidal attitude, i knew i could make money to support my negative kill/death ratio so i took what i had and ran with it as much as i could, others arent so obstinate and give up, moving on to other games where the going isnt so tough. However, therein lies the challenge and is part of what makes Jumpgate a great game, despite its ridiculously poor numbers. It really is survival of the fittest and there are many ways to survive, its just a pity there have been too many one-track minds who cant see outside the box and who cast Jumpgate aside as rubbish when it is themselves who arent up to the task. Amateurs. Make it easier to get to grip with by all means, appeal to a wider playerbase and help people to stick around a while longer, just dont take away the need for a killer instinct, however that shows itself. I regard anyone with the willpower and initiative to further their own role within the game as having a kiler instinct, the rest are a waste of space and proverbial cannon fodder. |

Re: Blasphemy - Maybe we do need safe zones of some sort....
I played Jumpgate Classic for almost a year, I mined, a lot, and I was probably the worst shot in the game. If not for machine guns and lots of ammo I wouldnt have been able to stay that long. I'm not a carebear, I have phisical problems that limit my "skill" so I manuver slower than some others.,but I liked the game itself, and stayed even though I died daily, either from flux while I mined or getting podded or whatever. If I had even a better chance to hit flux, maybe a small targeting helper (+/- 10%?), I'd probably still be playing, but now I'm waiting to see Jumpgate Evolution, if it doesnt give me any targeting help either, then I CANT play, because dieing every time 2 flux lev 2's come by isnt fun, and you never gain anything. As one of those players mentioned that played and left, this is a small explaination of why SOME left, there probably are lots of reasons, but that was mine. If I didnt have physical problems, I might have been a better pilot, but thats why I mined, and even then it didnt save me often enough, and thats the truth.
