Or else the game has built-in, permanent auto dock by station AI. Would make it easier on the noobs & take away the speed dock. Probably throw in an auto-protect so no one can shoot you while you are docking.

Yeah, that seems pretty harsh... tho hopefully there will still be a docking modx for those who feel that it is worth using a modx slot to assist with docking.

I think the most likely explanation is either a docking modx or a misinterpretation of the video. Major gameplay changes seems less likely, tho this certainly wouldn't be the first time i am wrong.

Re: Cargo Ship observations

It could be that after the director yelled "CUT!" that the ship crashed into the station because it was going too fast. It is after all, a presentation of the visuals not game play.

Gee I hoped those were in game vids, they did look pretty cool, and if they were staged shots, thenn they dont care if they crash..lol.

On faction main stations - yes. As far as we know at present that is. As for every other station, there is no auto-dock AI. Speed docking is still an option though. Instead of hitting the station, you hit the "point of no return" and the AI takes over. So you can full throttle it into the docking path, then the docking process takes over.

At least, that's what i experienced.

Re: Cargo Ship observations

It doesn't matter to me either way, I was just making a guess based on what I saw and read here and elsewhere. I've found "auto-dock" to be like a "Saturday Night Special", it's better than nothing but you can get hurt depending on it. It DOES make RP sense that in a civilized, high-tech environment you would have some kind of docking control to minimize station damage. Heck even Abilene Texas has an Air Traffic Control tower

Re: Cargo Ship observations

agree with Wild Bill on that one, but also there should be a limit on how fast you are going before the AI docking stage takes over, if going too fast you should still crash.

is that what we're talking about?

Yes, that's what we are currently talking about. Skill and learned experience are part of what made Jumpgate fun.

Re: Cargo Ship observations

I dunno, I kind of like the idea of not having to flip over and completely stop anymore. Simply head towards the docking area, hit a certain area at a certain speed and let the game "cutscene" the rest.

Now....I do believe if this is the case, there should be NO gun restrictions (like right now in classic if you try to tube camp too close, it disables your guns WTFBBQ!) and the ship should stay venerable until the auto docking completes....of coarse with an ability to "speeddock yourself" for people willing to put in the practice.
