Re: Chat Log from MMORPG
First when I heard the news I tought this was about bringing Jumpgate to its glory. That this was updating or releasing a sequel to Jumpgate TRI.
But now it sounds like you only call it Jumpgate Evolution because it has Jumpgates. |

Re: Chat Log from MMORPG
I'm reading alot of negativity here. And most of that stems from your belief that there won't be PVP in Jumpgate Evolution.
That is entirely incorrect. There will be PVP in Evolution. The regulated space is simply there to protect people who want to have the ability to say no, I don't want you to kill me right now. I realize that part of the fun for you comes from you being able to PK whoever, whenever you want, but the problem is that there are players who want this kind of game but don't want to have to worry about coming out of the station and getting ganked. With all of that said, we're still in pre-beta. Things are going to change. And also, if you are negative about something long enough, nothing done with the game is going to make you happy and in the end you're just making yourselves miserable over the entire situation. Take a deep breath, relax and just wait to see if Evolution is something that you'll like or not. You can't speculate on things that you have no knowledge of. Keep in mind that we answer everything as best we can with the knowledge that some of these systems are going to change. We're building an ever changing game. That's fundamentally what MMOs are. Ever changing persistent worlds. Until we get the game into the hands of the public, nothing is set in steel. |

Re: Chat Log from MMORPG
I think one big point of contention is just how exactly are these safe areas going to be safe? Will there be an actual game mechanic that makes it impossible to fire on someone who doesn't want to be fired upon? Or will there be a butt-load of AI police patrolling safe sectors that make it nearly impossible to fire on someone?

Re: Chat Log from MMORPG
i say make it "fire at ur own risk but if u do you will get raped by the AI police"
make it so u can still get away from the cops but if u do then a bounty is set on ur head and if u get within range of other defenders they will attack you again, resetting the timer on that bounty. after some set time your bounty disapears and u can again fly in reg space without the cops going after u. |

You said that you'd like to somehow recognize and reward the community that has stuck with the game for so long. Well how about you start by not destroying everything that made Jumpgate Classic the greatest game any of us has ever played? I know that you aren't the one calling the shots or programming the game, this is really more directed at Netdevil/Hermann in general. To me he is spitting in our faces and ruining what could have been great and what so many of us have been excited about for the past few months. |

Re: Chat Log from MMORPG
That’s because some of what we have read makes us feel that Jumpgate Evolution isn’t going to be what we hoped for, but hey it’s a bumpy road maybe some of the ideas in the last few interviews will fall off and the dev time will see the error of their ways and remember what made Jumpgate great.

Now, in regards to the snippet above. Evolution will not survive without PvP, thats a given. However, making regulated space some kind of artificial safe zone has to be balanced. You say that the fun comes from being able to PK whoever, whenever. That is a absolutely true statement. The 'old west' style of being able to do whatever you want if you are willing to take the consequences is what made Jumpgate Classic what it was. That said, just because a certain group of people are extremely vocal anytime someone ruins one second of their game play, doesn't mean you have to neuter the game. In all reality back in the Jumpgate Classic days, the people who were truly outside of the PvP scope were not bothered that much by the PvPers. Creating a ton of game-restricting rules and penalties, and "nerfs" will not make anyone happy, it will just make the game harder to play. I can understand reworking the bounty system, I can understand AI patrol ships chasing bountied pilots away, I can see defense squads getting something for patrolling and killing bountied pilots. What I can't understand is how anyone thinks it would be a good thing to make some place "completely safe", and by that I mean, design the game so that PK is impossible. If I get into Beta, I will spend every logged in moment proving EXACTLY why that is a bad idea. People hiding behind civ tags to do stupid crap has been around longer than Civ Ripping. Why do you think most civ ripping happens? Because someone is hiding behind the stupid tag system. Ehh, this post was draining. |

Way to sell out WoW style. Just give us a non-consentual pvp shard so we can enjoy the fancy graphics and people can be responsible in-game for their actions. |

The rest of my negativity comes from the notion that in Jumpgate what the players were doing was the story, and I have the very strong fear that in Jumpgate Evolution the story will be revealed to each individual player in "quests" and what all the other players are doing won't really matter. I.e. it will be a single player game with thousands of people playing it. |
