Re: Conflux

I agree completely regarding not being able to grab stuff off the floor. I agree that 100% of goods dumped should count. And I think that the concept of brokering after those "fixes" are made remains a bit absurd if you forget Jumpgate "tradition" for the moment and immerse yourseld in the "story."

For example:
Quote:
The Conflux have destroyed all ability to manufacture nukes and TRI is in danger of not being able to combat infestations. Solrain declares a faction-wide initiative to rebuild the Sabre manufacturing facility and call for pilots to deliver Aluminum, Titanium, Copper, Fiber Optics, CPUs, Electronics, Machines Parts, Construction Materials, Water, Food and Beer to facilitate construction.
. . . now do you hold 700 Machined Parts (assuming you get credit for all) or do you wait and give out 50 at a time so everyone can participate? And if you mete-out 50 at a time, wouldn't you be suspected of being in-league with the Conflux?

Now the problem this creates is that GMs generally want FMs to take a certain amount of time and effort -- in order to stretch them out, you will have to require a LOT of commodity to be consumed. Mining and manufacturing will become a larger part of FMs than just "running" -- and now you have fundamentally changed the social nature of that event.

{shrug} . . .no easy answers.

Re: Conflux

Whats wrong with promoting mining into the FMs instead of just hauling?

In the case of forced mining due to lack of commods, those people should get even more money for their hard work...

They just have to make it worth while...

Re: Conflux

Nothing wrog with it, it just kind of flies in the face of the original discussion regarding FMs as "social events/group dynamics." While there IS group-mining (alas, another "exploit" -- but not a very popular one), most people don't find it as socially enjoyable as group "running."

Re: Conflux

Hives,

Id like Conflux Hive assets to be in Jumpgate Evolution too - but a little less beach ball like and more "infesty" and with far far longer than a 20 min respawn when killed. Id like some flux turrets (globules) to fire plasma, some mortar and some to trigger PWD's if a pilot gets closer than 5k and Id like them (globules) to be constantly forming and reforming after being shot.

Id like Hives to ONLY be vulnerable to Nukes etc and plasma up the Hive hole and for each nuke landed to re-trigger Conflux to launch from it.

Id also like them to change colour as they get closer to going boom.

Of course, that is applying Jumpgate Classic logic and such so... who knows how translatable that would be.

Well by now I hope you understand I'm using "exploit" to means intentionally taking advantage of a code loophole. Group mining allows multiple pilots to extract a multiple of the max yield for a roid equal to the number of pilots mining. So if a large roid yields 40u or ore, you can theoretically have 100 pilots group mine the roid and extract 4,000u of ore before it overheats.

If the code worked right, the yield would remain constant whether there was one or 100 pilots. So the 100 group-miners should each get 0.4u of ore

Roids should heat up twice as fast with two (equally equipped) pilots mining. They don't.

Sounds like an example of exploit to me.

Sound to me like an unintended consequence therefore it would be classed as an exploit

Wow... i so totally disagree.

I enjoyed fluxing. This games shouldn't' be just abut 1 thing... (ie PvP) it needs some common enemy also to encourage cooperation between enemies. It adds another dimension to the game which i think is very important.

Does it throw a wrench into a PvP battle when they spawn... you bet, and that makes space all the more dangerous. That being said, if the flux ai could tell where there was PvP occurring and wait until AFTER said PvP and attack that could be cool. Why risk itself when they can watch one person kill another and then they can try to kill whoever is left. This also gives the option of those fighting to work together against the flux or flee the sector before the flux gets involved. Hmm.. not sure how that would work... but its a thought.
