About This Page About This Page: This is a discussion on The difference between WoW and JG within the Jumpgate Evolution General Discussion forums, part of the Jumpgate Evolution Forums category, at Joystick Required Forums. I am a little late to the discussion and have read very little of the dev notes, but are they still talking about adding "loot" to the game?

I am a little late to the discussion and have read very little of the dev notes, but are they still talking about adding "loot" to the game? If so, have they defined if it will be ship enhancements or other? Having 'Loot' that could potentially make a pilot's ship better than the norm smells a lot like WoW.

One of the greatest appealing characteristics of Jumpgate has always been the skill factor (though I lack the afore mentioned skill). Knowing I lost not because I didn't grind enough, but because the other pilot was a better shot/pilot has always had me coming back for more!

The quote in this post came from the Producer of Jumpgate Evolution. He's said repeatedly that there will be loot, but that was the first he said anything about powerful guns that took 4 months to get.

Gawd, I hope I don't have to put on my grinding hat just to compete!! That is one of the reasons I quit WoW.

I agree totally and completely. I fear however as GG dose ( at least I'm guessing he dose) that the man who brought you the basic mmo in cars is in the process of making the basic mmo in space. Witch of coarse none of us will play for very long just like no one played AA for very long.

A harsh (and early) assessment perhaps, But hey, it's not my fault they announced the game way way to early, give us almost no info so were forced to speculate based on hints or trying to extrapolate meaning out of a few words in a vague post.

damn it I broke my resolution on being less hurtful this year.

I'm guessing that the argument here is 'What works for Blizzard can work for us.' or 'The modern MMO player expects loot and experience.' But both arguments are BS. People who don't want to play other MMOs don't precisely because of these. As for those that do play MMOs, why would they want to drop the characters and money that they've invested to start yet another grind? That's why there are so many failed and free MMOs. You need innovation. Jumpgate Classic was totally different and I loved that.

You receive loot: [Thorn of Smiting +4].

Go ahead and keep bitting your tongue and you too can play play basic mmo in space Q4 2008.

Or you can be a miner with turrets you may lose the battle but at least you put up a fight.

Re: The difference between WoW and Jumpgate

i agree with you and have said a few things along the way, just getting too old and tired to really get flames going on any forums any more, that being said a few things i have seen about Jumpgate Evolution make me sick, but with any luck they will make a half decent game.

Very interesting point of view. I don't know the answer, but the question of whether you have MMO success by attracting the disenfranchised or by "stealing" from other successful MMOs seems to require a rather important answer. Perhaps the answer is BOTH -- in which case you need to choose ONE before proceeding with game design. Choosing "BOTH" could lead to satisfying NEITHER.

Ugh! Cross-forum posting is tiring.

This is just one step of many to help us greatly reduce the amount of equipment built by AI/stores and require players more and more to build the majority of the equipment in the game.
This actually sounds reasonable. Supply/demand was a problem in Jumpgate Classic.
