Diplomacy - No civripping for 6 months

Now that I am done with my IT projects, this has allowed me to get back my 1st love Jumpgate. I have been seeing a variety of spirited discussions about game mechanics and such... What I am VERY VERY concerned about is protecting the new playerbase. So I am going to ask my fellow vets and core JGer's to take an oath. It is a simple pledge that we as a community will take and it will be binding.

No CIVRIPING for 6 months from the date of when Jumpgate Evolution Retail is released. I will ask Jump to make this a sticky so that we can go back and remind ourselves that despite what happens to a newbie, no matter what the newbie does, we shall not civrip for 6 months. Now I know that cramps our pirate's style but if we are to preserve and retain our community's anticipated growth we will need to kinda be nice. Remember that we will have a considerable advantage against those guys.

I ask those who concur (we can discuss as well) to sign on this thread and accept this pledge. If someone thinks this is ludicous, please propose a better solution.

j/k of course. i think the first month, most everyone will be busy leveling and learning how to play the game again anyways (at least, those that didn't make beta).

LOL Sent you are ALWAYS a hoot but you do make a great point.... Just wanted to put a nugget in the back of folks minds so that we preserve the new folks coming in otherwise....

I assume that this pledge wouldn't apply to someone who civs a "noob" who civved a noob (i.e. some "asshat in sheeps clothing").

I'll be lenient, but I'm also not going to contribute to a server environment in which people think their words and actions are consequence-free due to their civ tags.

What makes the server environment different that forum environments? People have a tendency to say what they want in either simply because they feel that it's anonymous.

Because of the eb and flow of the role-play environment in Jumpgate, a lot of "politiking" went on surrounding who was friendly with who. Bumping a loaded tow that's trying to dock and not apologizing for it could start a war (sometimes an apology wasn't enough).

The difference between the server environment and forum environment is that, if I don't like what a person says, I can fire back with lasers instead of words.

Awen: It's an IC vs. OC thing. Generally, things said on the forums don't count unless it's back-and-forth in-character dialogue. Someone saying they think the nix should be nerfed wouldn't be killed, but someone saying Octavians are disgusting vile trash has it coming. Pretty easy to separate the two.
