Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

Screenshots of QC are due out in the near-term. We've been waiting for completion of skybox assets to the satisfaction of the art department. The model itself has been in builds for about a month now, but we can't ever show anything that the art team isn't yet happy with.

As to the docking rings - take a good look at the foreground of the shot Jump posted. You can see two parallel lines of blue "lights" (comparatively somewhat faint), visible near the center of the bay itself, from the picture's perspective. These serve the same function the docking rings did in Jumpgate Classic - they are actually outward from the bay and help you figure out where the docking port is when you're partway around the station body from there. Instead of the old rings (which admittedly I liked), we're modelling these more on the idea of runway landing lights. Unlike the rings, they've got an inward animated motion to them that helps catch the eye in-game.

We really can't wait until we can provide you guys with some video. Things like lighting, normal maps, environment mapping, and the special fx (just to start) just don't look very good in stills. Many things you're wondering or speculating about will be abundantly clear once you see some footage. Video could yet be months away, though. I've been told the dev team may be authorized to push short "goodies" (such as a 15-sec flyby of something) to the existing community even on a spur-of-the-moment basis (after approval), but only after a formal, official game trailer has been released. I have as yet been given no estimate as to when that necessary official trailer will happen.

Also, I just confirmed using my test client: I'd estimate in the pic Jump posted that the player's ship is about 6 km out from the docking bay.

Downscaling a screen shot to 800x600 and C&Ping makes this station look a smidge bigger than a Jumpgate Classic station...

Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

There is no point of scale to reference between the two games so I fail to see your point. Or I don't understand.

Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

I take it the shot of wake is from 6k away like the ship in the shot of Jumpgate Evolution is 6k away.

Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

They're both from 6km.

The unit could be different in Jumpgate Evolution, but if it was I don't see why Istvan would of mentioned it*.

Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

Yes but we are only looking at the docking bay. We can't see the rest of the station as it goes through the top left of the pic.

Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

I think the point that the docking bay "part" of the station is bigger than Wake is still a decent one, if not entirely fair to the Jumpgate Evolution station.
