Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

Past screen shots and the current one in DSD lead me to believe that the Docking Rings are going to be an internal structure in Jumpgate Evolution. What I get from the screens is a very large opening and a long entry within the station which would serve the same purpose as our old beloved green rings. Granted it's hard to put to much into screens and tomorrow we may very well see some pic somewhere with in space rings. But as of now, that is my impression.

This to me means that people docking will not be subject to flyby shootings and bumping. It would also mean no speed docking. Now before you get all sweaty and worked up, this is just what I see so far and pure speculation.

Thoughts?

I'll wait until Beta to see how it actually works. Simply not enough info yet for me to have/make an opinion one way or the other.

Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

I dunno if that would eliminate speed docking. Uber docking would still be viable, to the extent that it is ever viable.

It would make it harder, though, and much more vulnerable to someone camping the tube.

Speed-docking was available to anyone who practiced it in the sim. I'm sure we'll figure out how best to dock in Jumpgate Evolution - and get practicing.

With a larger area to hit for landing, speed docking will be easier....I don't see where you are coming from...

Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

Unless weapons are turned off once inside the opening you will be a target while approaching the docking tube. With the walls of the ship as the docking ring you can not fly directly to the docking tube and stop and turn. It would be like having to fly to the large end of the rings and fly through them for every dock, instead of flying to the smallest ring. Which is now deep inside the ship.

Like I said, this is pure speculation from the pics I have seen so far. For all we know the minute get into the outer opening you will be docked. But if you have to fly all the way through it with weapons able then no, you will not be speed docking.

Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

Ohhh, you think landing is going to be more realistic now, ala Battlestar, you fly slowely into an opening and have to actually put the ship down on the tarmac?

That would be freaking P-I-M-P

Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

No that's not what I meant, though it would be cool. It looks to me like you will still have to approach a small opening but instead of flying through projected rings that are not solid, you will have to fly through a long section of sold ship. Look at the pics of Sol stations.

Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

Can you embed it here?

I figured as soon as you got to the opening of the docking bay you were in, pretty much like it was in Jumpgate Classic.

Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

There is one in our gallery. It's a pretty big opening and it just looks like the rings are inside to me.

Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

this one?

I can see what you mean if those rings inside are the actual "tube" however, it still does not mean people can't speed dock. It just means they have to go a little farther inside before the actual dock happens. This actually gives you a bigger "last circle" to work with.

Re: Docking Rings in Jumpgate Evolution

See the tiny ship leaving. This thing is huge. I believe the ship in the foreground is quite a ways away.

Those rings inside my be the rings you see in space now.
