I think people are rushing to doom and gloom judgement too quickly. Hearing about "features" and "philosophy" is one thing -- playing the finished product will be different.

Jumpgate Classic was never really presented to the masses.

I suspect they're setting themselves up for a major disappointment, much like auto assault. If you take WoW and slap on a gimmick, you bomb. In this case the gimmick is flying a spaceship.

The really depressing part is that even if Lego Universe does well, they aren't likely to return to Jumpgate and do it right. All I can do at this point is hope Istvan's hope of returning to Jumpgate Classic with a couple of guys when Jumpgate Evolution rolls out comes true.

It'll be fun until the new wears off and the grind sets in.

Re: Herman Interview on IGN

I am going into Jumpgate Evolution with little expectations.... Instead I am getting involved in the TKD experience...

The reason for my expectation is that:

1. They haven't changed the video
2. They haven't really said anything new.
3. I think that things are going to be pushed back since Lego is more of a priority and a moneymaker for them.

I am just thinking from a business aspect. Hey ND is in it for the money. Otherwise they would not be a company.

It is what it is.

And WoW clones make money? Some do, some don't. There's a large number of vanilla MMOs out there. Novel features are a selling point. If the marketing thing is done right.

Actually, we haven't yet seen a MMO that started development AFTER WoW was released.

Re: Herman Interview on IGN

Good point Daslog. In fact, WoW is a clone of many hugely successful MMOs that proceeded it.

I think that people get scared by the comment he made about making Jumpgate Evolution more solo friendly, because they don't think in terms of other MMOs out there. In many, if not nearly every single one, playing in a party/group is essentially a requirement to do ANYTHING in the game. No one should have to do that 100% of the time just to get anywhere.

The Jumpgate we all know and love IS solo friendly. You can even PvP without having to be in a group. You just have to be careful as to what engagements you let yourself get into.

The best way to set up a game is to ENCOURAGE Group Play/Teamwork, rather than to make 'solo' (i.e. not being in a wing/group) play essentially impossible. For instance, in Jumpgate, a person can level by killing flux, and they can do it without having to sit around for hours begging for a 'party'. However, if we want to take out a swarm, you either have to be hot stuff (and it is possible) or you do need to get together with some folks to take it out.
