I don't think you understand my point I'm making. The easier you make it to be lame, the more people will do it. Like people who hack in FPS games, the less they think they will get caught and banned, the more people do it. With the advent of memory scanners, screencaps, and complete game bans instead of just being banned from one server, a lot of people quit hacking.

If you give someone the ability to be lame, they will, simple as that. If you make them work hard for it, some people will still do it, but the majority will not.

I've been on both sides of this. I've had people attack netburnr for Gotcha's actions, and I've attacked other people's "bankroll" accounts based on the actions of their alts, or their squad's alts.

If people don't completely separate their accounts, then they get no mercy from me, and I don't expect any either.

The more attractive you make the game the more will play it..
And it beats the lame argument because most people arent lame.

I honestly can't imagine anyone saying anything along the lines of "OMG!! They only let you have 1 character? I'm SO not playing that." The only valid reason for having multiple characters is having multiple character classes (which, I'd like to point out, they haven't said they aren't doing yet. That's also standard for MMOs).

In my personal opinion, the only other reason they would allow multiple characters per account would be so that a player can fly for each faction to see the differences. That will definitely impact the pvp community in a negative way, but with the way pvp keeps getting the "we'll also have something for pvpers" treatment in the interviews, I won't be surprised if at it's core Jumpgate Evolution is a PvE game....because that's REALLY where the money is.

The "only let you have 1 character" problem isn't that they won't play it to begin with but when they reach top level with their first character they won't be able to play another and that could create boredom for some which could cause to canceled accounts down the road.

"Classes" are a horrible idea for Jumpgate. They don't fit the theme and what if a level 50 (or whatever the top level will be) Miner Specialist class wants to become a Fighter class the next day and they can't or they are gimped because of their "class".

Besides, Jumpgate already has "Classes" built into it by nature. For instance I used to consider myself a "Miner" when I first started playing. Then I moved on to being a "Hauler". And now I am a factional "Fighter". Our "classes" are designated by how we play and not by the modifications to our dice rolls set out for us from day one. That is the beauty of Jumpgate.

The problem I see with only one Character per account is that people who want to play a Pirate for example will have horrible ratings presumably with most factions (some sort of faction reputation will carry over into Jumpgate Evolution). This will prevent them from being able to do some mining or hauling or whatever for a faction to raise funds or purchase weapons. I mean really, it actually adds a little realism to have bad guys bankrolled by "good" guys... it happens ALL the time in the real world.

I do agree in one sense though that you must choose a faction for whatever server your playing on and all your accounts should belong to that faction. If you choose to play quants on one server and Octs on another that's fine because they cannot in any way influence eachother. This is standard fair for MMO's these days.

I'm not worried about PvP in Jumpgate Evolution. PvP was one of the things that worked well in Jumpgate Classic. Most of the interviews start revolving around what ELSE is going to be added to Jumpgate Evolution in contrast to Jumpgate Classic. So when I see the "we'll also have something for pvpers" comments you mentioned I don't get worried but get kinda excited to see they are going to add even more to the already fun PvP aspect of Jumpgate Classic.

Have you played Jumpgate? Anyone is free to reset and join any faction they want.

Uhm... yes.

And I didn't say they NEVER want to play their first character ever again. Most people like having multiple characters. If you want to play your pirate on the weekend but play your miner/trader during the week you shouldn't have to reset your account twice a week. That doesn't even make sense.

If you design a good game, people won't get bored at level 50. Leveling in Jumpgate was an afterthought after you had access to the ship you wanted...that should stay the same.

Sadly I think that is their main focus at this point, seeing as the major things they are working on and started with are pretty graphics and an AI server capable of lots of stuff.

Exactly what I've been saying all along, putting game mechanics in to remove freedom is just not what Jumpgate should be all about. Both in the case of classes here, and the whole tag MT system....

Re: How Much $$$$

LOL well the only reason I even started this thread was because I usually have multiple accounts ...as many as 10 at once.I could give 2 shitz if it $10 or $15 it was just a question I haven't seen asked yet so I did.I don't fly multi accounts to rip someone in 1 and jump in a diff to hide I am an azzhole in all my accounts I just like different ships to be available to me.

I didn't. Jumpgate is better when every pilot has to finance himself.

Back in the day, wars were actually WON by one side or another, because you could bankrupt the other side by winning fights. Even 300m was a huge amount of money.

I early release I tried to hire all of OEC to work on the Duelist CP, and that bastard Karash wanted 8m, so I had to go hire a hauler squad for 4m.

Oh, and I wish it were public knowledge when one alt finances another. It's not something people should be doing.
