The "only let you have 1 character" problem isn't that they won't play it to begin with but when they reach top level with their first character they won't be able to play another and that could create boredom for some which could cause to canceled accounts down the road.
"Classes" are a horrible idea for Jumpgate. They don't fit the theme and what if a level 50 (or whatever the top level will be) Miner Specialist class wants to become a Fighter class the next day and they can't or they are gimped because of their "class".
Besides, Jumpgate already has "Classes" built into it by nature. For instance I used to consider myself a "Miner" when I first started playing. Then I moved on to being a "Hauler". And now I am a factional "Fighter". Our "classes" are designated by how we play and not by the modifications to our dice rolls set out for us from day one. That is the beauty of Jumpgate.
The problem I see with only one Character per account is that people who want to play a Pirate for example will have horrible ratings presumably with most factions (some sort of faction reputation will carry over into Jumpgate Evolution). This will prevent them from being able to do some mining or hauling or whatever for a faction to raise funds or purchase weapons. I mean really, it actually adds a little realism to have bad guys bankrolled by "good" guys... it happens ALL the time in the real world.

I do agree in one sense though that you must choose a faction for whatever server your playing on and all your accounts should belong to that faction. If you choose to play quants on one server and Octs on another that's fine because they cannot in any way influence eachother. This is standard fair for MMO's these days.
I'm not worried about PvP in Jumpgate Evolution. PvP was one of the things that worked well in Jumpgate Classic. Most of the interviews start revolving around what ELSE is going to be added to Jumpgate Evolution in contrast to Jumpgate Classic. So when I see the "we'll also have something for pvpers" comments you mentioned I don't get worried but get kinda excited to see they are going to add even more to the already fun PvP aspect of Jumpgate Classic.
