Re: How are you gonna play Jumpgate?
Hey have we met in RL then, because that’s sort of sums me up ( Im a really laid back bloke. Who wouldn’t say boo to a goose. A Buddhist and a pacifist ) as breaking the hearts of any squads I have my squad and am not looking for any others, I speak how I feel and they don’t mean anything to me. I was just trying to understand how or why they should.

Re: How are you gonna play Jumpgate?
after lordopic's comments i think there ought to be jumpgate history textbooks.
And i agree with you tex, once it got to the point where aqm or some other squads were just going into oct or sol space (or vice versa) to fight every night for no reason, gameplay got stale. While that kind of mindless fighting can be fun for a while, it gets repetitive and boring if its not motivated by any RP or other interesting conflicts. While I would like to see factional pvp continue, I think squads should be of utmost importance and that interfactional pvp shouldnt be so rare as it was in classic. It would be cool if, for example, if a sol and oct squad made an alliance and a quant squad cut a deal wiht a multifactional squad (like ISU or something) and they fought it out in dereg or tried to accomplish some covert goal that would cripple the capabilities of the other squad. just a thought |

Re: How are you gonna play Jumpgate?
You see the problem is there are two Jumpgate histories US and EU, I personally started playing on the EU one about 6 years ago thus anything on the old US now the WWS server means nothing to me pre the merger. Bar the Jumpgate story and history as laid down by ND.
I know these squads have a place in Jumpgate history as do some of their members I just don’t get awe struck when one of them pops up in the forums or in game, I mean no disrespect just don’t agree with a lot of what some of them say Jumpgate has moved on lets hope JC-V keeps it moving, and we don’t get stuck in a *lets relive the good ole days* |

Re: How are you gonna play Jumpgate?
That is an interesting question Tex. Having done alot of factional things in varying degrees, I like the factional-based stuff because it has natural tension built in. Back when we "defended" Hyperial (all 3 of us), it was cool to do something different, though the 42,943 on 3 every night kinda sucked (though the towload of dreams was neat).
![]() I don't have the interest to play 6 hours a night, and all weekend, every weekend, but at the same time it would be great to develop a strong RP this time around. The problem is, once you walk the factional line, even in moderation, you end up as part of/wing of the OEC/SOLNavy/AQM (for all the EU guys, these were the big three factional squads of Oct/Sol/Quant respectively on the old US server) perpetual combat. This quick becomes 50v50v50, and a mess. I really like the idea of smaller squads being able to influence things somewhat, and I hope ND thinks that too. That would certainly give more options for RP development. Me, I hate the big squads. I am a fan of the underdog, and game that way too. ![]() Unfortunately for me, I am not good enough to be a merc, I don't like to rip civs, so piracy is not really an option (barring new tools wink, wink, nudge, nudge...Letters of Marque??). I can only haul so much...and mining gets very old very quick. I hate arti hunting. I don't have alot of options. ![]() |

Re: How are you gonna play Jumpgate?
I'm thinking of becoming some kind of crazy hyperfactionalist wannabe galactic emperor, or maybe a scurvy pie rat with a bounty the size of Soria's GDP. Or both.
I got bored when people stopped shooting me. |

I could be a flux hugger, or maybe the Prince of Hyperial.

Re: How are you gonna play Jumpgate?
I think WileE described the way I feel about it the best. Dont have the time nor energy to do anything large scale but still wana do something involving combat and that always tends to grow.
Also it would feel strange to play anything but TexMurphy as my main character. Though I only see one way that character can be evolved from where he is atm and that is into a mercenary. I dont know if anyone knows or cares that there actually has been a RP story behind that character all along. I dont run around screaming RP RP RP but for my own immersion and to put actions into a context there has always been a story. *It started with a rookie assigned to a merchant squad (MA) *who moved on to the combat wing of that merchant squad (MM) *then got recruited by a solrain factional undercover squadron (IHS) *after the under cover service he went on to lead a millitary squadron (PoS) *after resigning from millitary duty he moved to unreg sick of the constant factional wars. In unreg he tried to extend his pension through what ever means there where. (Synergy) So there has always been a career and a evolution there, even though alot of people might not have known it and/or agreed with it. Problem is though as I wount have time to play enough and develope any sort of skill I have a hard time seeing my self getting jobs as a merc. Ofcourse alot depends on how the new gameplay will be and if it will open up new possiblities. Maybe the new gameplay will provide us with new options and choises that we dont know yet. But my point is. At least I am feeling a bit torn towards playing Jumpgate again. Part of me very much looks forward to playing a new version of Jumpgate. Part of me feels its gonna be "the same ride" over and over again and for that I dont have the time or energy. Tex |

Re: How are you gonna play Jumpgate?
You know, I havent really thought about that much. I suppose the OEC would be 'back', but I think our skillset would be way off base from being any sort of powerhouse squad. OV would be running the show in Oct space...so I am not sure what we would be doing to make that 'political impact' Tex is referring to.
Maybe I could be the second coming of The Tyke. I would probably have to shoot myself eventually however... |

Re: How are you gonna play Jumpgate?
As much as I know I will probably be involved with AQM in some way shape or form, I've always wanted to fly with Sol Navy or OEC because I knew they were cool guys too. Weekend of War was a nice taste and ISU was an interesting multi-factional experience. I would really like to see an "old timers" squad of some sort so we could fly together *group hug*.
But Liet is lame and can't RP anything but a baby-eating Oct so LIETSINTHEWAY is now offically formed. Accepting squad apps, post-haste. And if Karash forms OEC then he's KOS too... Tex... if he buys me a bottle of vodka he can do whatever the hell he wants to. |
