Interested in Jumpgate Evolution, would like some info!
I've never played Jumpgate or even heard much about it. I am now very interested in Evolution and I was wondering about a couple of things.....
First, could I get some feedback on the original Jumpgate? What is great about it, what is not so great, what just plain sucks? I'd just like to have realistic expectations! Second, if you were me would you want to play Jumpgate as a total newbie until evolution comes out to get familiar with the game, or would you hold off and start playing at Evolution launch so the game is fresh? Thanks much for your time, I look forward to reading your replies! |

Re: Interested in Jumpgate Evolution, would like some info!
Also, I've seen the launch date for Evolution listed as TBA 07, can I expect to be playing Jumpgate Evolution by the end of the year then, or has it been pushed back to 08?
I dont see an edit button.. and I edit a LOT!!! If there is a way to edit posts please let me know so I dont have to post replies to myself in the future! |

Hello Grimm. I think you need a minimum of three or five posts before you get editing privileges. As for your questions, I'll let the headless mob answer the question of what was what with the original Jumpgate. And we really don't know enough about the new game yet to determine whether playing the original will be a benefit or not, although I'd tend to think it would be, at least in the sense that you'd grow familiar with some of the aspects that are sure to carry over into Jumpgate Evolution.

Thanks, I'd assume it would likely be a benefit too, but how much would a total newbie enjoy Jumpgate starting now? I'm just wondering if the fun I'll have now would be worth sacrificing the totally new experience I could have with Evolution.

You can start now and start learning how to control the ship. Ship control and aim is the hardest part of the game and takes years to master. Hell I never mastered it and I played for 18 hours a day for like a year straight.
As for what was awesome and what sucked.....thats like an entire message board by itself. It was awesome cause it was in a class of its own as a first person space sim with a persistent MMOPRG feel to it. It sucked because it didn't get the support it deserved and never really got off the ground so when the "few" players we had started leaving the game got stagnant and boring. Those are my opinions. |

Re: Interested in Jumpgate Evolution, would like some info!
Well, I downloaded the client and started doing the offline flight sim thing to get the hang of flying, and I have to say I love it!!!! Now I'm really drooling over Evolution!! I hope it gets good advertising to bring in a fair number of people when it goes live because I'm a social gamer.
Also.. are there capital ships? Cause Capital ship assault was always one of my favorite parts of Wing Commander! ps- yay I can edit!! |

You can experience the live server for free for 10 days if you have a CC. I think you would enjoy asking the players still active a few questions as well. As for benefits, some of the thing that are in Jumpgate will be staying, like the engine, whereas others will be updated and added to. If you experience the original then you will understand more fully the discussions happening here and can participate
If you wait, then the entire experience will be new and fresh but i still believe Jumpgate Classic has something to offer ppl. |

IIRC they said the beta would start in '07 (interview with GM_Draker I believe). With that being said Grimm, make sure you go to Jumpgate Evolution and submit your e-mail for a beta invite if you haven't already done so.
