I liked the cloud effect in the first video, really cool looking.

2nd video, while attacking the boss station.... The flight physics look really off, like he practically stops with no real trying like you would have to in classic, I guess that is an example of dampeners at work....

That is the only part that bothers me: too arcadish. Just point and fly in the direction you want. Maybe it is different while playing (Weekend of War videos were not very exciting to people that did not play Jumpgate). Plus that new boost-drive, might allow you to just run from any real danger.

Re: Jumpgate Evolution E3 2008 Developer Walkthrough videos

Think it's a bit early to pass judgement on the game for now, they are only using a demonstration build of the game and as he say, it's far from finished.
One bit of info though, he says at the end of video 2 that the game is set for a release in spring 2009, so that would be something like April-May I gather.

Re: Jumpgate Evolution E3 2008 Developer Walkthrough videos

Oh dear.
A)They could have got some one that knows something about Jumpgate to present the videos.

B) They should have filmed few hours after he had just eaten. Was I the only one that thinks he was suffering from major indigestion?
I had to stop watching the 1st one and only got a few seconds into the 2nd.

Have to say the quote “makes you feel you’re playing a console game” made me wonder if it’s going to be Jumpgate at all.

Had to come back as the threads/posts over at CM forums are on a merry go round.

That's what they mean by accessibility.

Re: Jumpgate Evolution E3 2008 Developer Walkthrough videos

i liked the videos a lot (despite the dude talking really creeping me out)

however I share everyone's concerns regarding the arcade feel of the dampeners and boost modes... that could really damage PvP. But I will hold off going psycho about that until Beta.

Remember, the Halcyon he's flying is the newb starter ship, so you kinda expect it to have very low mass.

Re: Jumpgate Evolution E3 2008 Developer Walkthrough videos

I too am not happy with completely saturated skyboxes. As far as the arcade feel goes watch the videos again and try to ignore the 3rd person ship it's a distraction, the flight model seems very Jumpgate Classic to me. The turn rate seems high but if that's a light fighter than it's appropriate.

As far as the boost goes radi just think how bad it would suck if you jump in a sector and see an enemy 6k away, your guns are only good for 5.999k and hes 1kps faster?

Without some kind of boost be it FFS or some kind of AB it would totally blow to have to listen to your enemy smack talk you and flip you off because you have 0 chance of catching him. The boost must be fuel limited or you would still have the same problem, a system where if you see an enemy you could just but your back to them and fly totally secure that no paint will be damaged on your ship. Where's the fun in that?

The boost did seem a bit too much but it's hard to tell with the retarted 3rd person ship in the fing way
