Re: Jumpgate Evolution: Faction Stations Proposal
biteme, you have a point about the fun but at the same time I believe you are missing the point.
Not everyone thinks the same thing are fun. I don't like hunting the big flux. I don't enjoy taking a pod ride because nearly everyone I run into in-game is a superior combat pilot. I do enjoy mining. I do enjoy hauling. I do enjoy producing, etc. I just don't enjoy doing it all. Even with the stuff I DO enjoy, I'm not going to be on-line 24/7 so if I'm not there doing it, who is going to do it? (Understand, I'm not claiming that I'm carrying the economy on my back either, just using it as an example). No matter how good the Devs are, they are NOT going to be able to make a game that will please everyone all the time. Adding in AI to fill in the gaps is a good thing. I hope Jumpgate Evolution is so hugely popular there is no NEED for AI, but if not, I would like AI to be there so space won't look so damn lonely all the time. I was on for a couple of hours last night and only saw one pilot in flight in Oct Space from Great Pillars to Oct Core to OutPost. Seeing several AI (besides those pesky flux) would have been nice. |

Re: Jumpgate Evolution: Faction Stations Proposal
Equivalent hours only gives you 943 noob. Bill my point was that if they do there job well there will be someone that likes the job you don't. It's really kind of a moot argument anyways the AI is in and I'm not going to change it. If they do let people hire AI to do jobs for them then I hope there is a way to find out who hired this AI tow I see in front of me so I know weather or not to shoot it down and in doing so cause financial harm to the person that hired the AI. |

Example, some d1ck decides to strip a faction station by using an AI hauler, we need to know who that person is so we can grief, errr, punish, them. |

Re: Jumpgate Evolution: Faction Stations Proposal
From bits and pieces of info from casual talk ingame with isty and Striker. The AI will be balanced before any specific trade is established that players can hire, use. Beta will probably not let players hire any AI until the automatic AI is working to the set designs.
My take on the begining AI is. The AI will start with the begining commods, like grain, water, carbon. The perception is the player base does not want to aquire these items or the items represent "the grind" . The AI will generate demand by starting conflicts. One of the first explainations of the AI was its ability to start a battle between two foes and be able to call help to the extent that the sector was a furball before long. So if thorns are maxed out and the commods that make them are not in demand, the AI will fix it with a battle for hrs between laser toting AI. If the AI is balanced the player base is the deciding factor to unbalance it. To end a AI battle players will probably need to pick a side and swing the battle so it will end. What degre of losses one side of the AI needs to show before it withdraws is not known. I hope they dont fight to the last ship, that would be "the grind". With the balance thing relating to everything, a pvper hiring AI haulers to pad his wallet will have some type of balancing AI to encounter. The reason it wont be in early beta. If any player aquired AI is used and is balanced the player should be able to defeat the AI so his haul is sucessful. I dont think it will be a hire, send them on their way, and forget em, kinda thing. The same thing with AI hired miners, if the boss is not guarding his miners, some nasty AI will probably pop in to remind him hes a lamer. Now for concerns about the starting AI. The folowing is cafine induced nightmares. The scenario... Quants and Octs are engaged in a war over ownership of EE the gateway to riches.... somewhere. civs are strugling to keep up with production of war goods. production efficencies could decied the winner or loser. AAAAARRRRRG quant AI haulers are shiping grain to Oct space... there following the stupid KTRI prompts. We lose because the AI killed us. AI bots need to be tied to the factional stress thingie. If its on green all factional bots can go anywhere with anything. If its on red same faction bots need to go get goods for that factions needs. That does not exclude players that haul goods to the foes stations during war time. So RP squads, that haul anything anywhere anytime can play their RP without the interference of bots. I expect to exploit everything in Jumpgate Evolution |
