Is Jumpgate Evolution going to fix what killed the original?

How married is Netdevil to their original design? Is this just going to be a reskinning of the old Jumpgate or are some of the core issues going to be fixed? Some examples:

Exploiting of the economy: (Matter Farming)
Exploits: (Clientside hit detection)
PvP/PvE swtich (this clearly didn't work)

And so on. Feel free to add more.

I don't want to waste my time playing the same old Jumpgate again with all the same problems that it had.

Re: Is Jumpgate: Evolution going to fix what killed the original?

I think if you listen to the interview at JPR (are they still running it?) and read the one in DSD then you will be quite surprised at the vision they have for it. Your question was the first thing I thought of as well. Now I feel pretty confident that things are going to be different. Just the fact that they are involving many of the fansites is a breath of fresh air. Of course, I may be a bit biased on that last point.

Let's hope so anyway. Time will tell I guess.

Re: Is Jumpgate: Evolution going to fix what killed the original?

Well the short answer is fix what is broken and keep what works.

The problem is there is a variety of opinions on what is broken now. Things I think everyone can agree on are the graphics needed a massive update (not a minor one), the game was much to difficult at the beginning for new users (not that it can't be VERY difficult later) and space felt empty which is why we completely changed the way AI works and now even when there are just a few of us in space there are thousands of AI at work all over space at any given time.

Through feedback from playtests, boards like this and our own and the beta, once that starts up, we will fix what we need to so that Jumpgate Evolution is a great game period. Since we have no publisher we are going to work on this game until it is great, no excuses. Thats not to say that it will ship without certain fetures, just that when it does ship, everything in the game will be awesome or it does not go live.

@ scorch

It must feel good not to have to work at milestones for Jumpgate Evolution.

It's great to watch a game develop like this, where you can't tell who's more excited about it: the developers or the players.

"Your invitation was obviously intercepted by pirates, probably paid off by Hyperial scum. I suggest retaliatory strikes against Hyperial interests in the border sectors."

Istvan is now officially kos by all hyperial forces.

In my opinion what killed the game started way back before release. The extremely long time the game was in beta meant people had been playing for free for so long and therefore didn't believe there was any reason to continue playing because other games were out that had interested them instead.

From there you have the problems with 3DO and then the problems with Themis and you've lost a large amount of the community. Then EP2 and it's problems caused even more people to leave and slowly but surely Themis ensured that most of the remaining community also quit (this is US Jumpgate btw, not sure what went on with EU Jumpgate).

I believe that all this did much more damage than what you posted above.

I for one can't wait, I'd love to see space filled again, even with AI, it fit Darkstar One really well, made me feel like I wasn't even playing a single player game.

LOL, what was wrong with the game . . .

There are as many opinions on that as there are people who have played.

Start making a list! Or just add to mine. Somethings will be your opinion, like PvP penalties, but some will factual. Remember that guy on the satellite ISP who had a ping of over 900? He was able to kill anyone in PvP because of the way hit detection is programmed. Obviously that needs to be fixed.
