Hi all. By any chance, have you guys had a thread trying to compare Jumpgate Evolution to these other games? I understand there isn't even a beta out yet, but I'm sure some have insights on what Jumpgate Evolution may bring.

Currently, I am playing EVE. I love its complexity, but I am a die hard First Person Shooter and am missing that aspect of a game. I have long hours put into X3. It is a great game, but as some may know, it is not a multiplayer.

I come from an X-Wing vs Tie Fighter and Wing Commander era, and I greatly miss the flight sims. Sadly, I never enjoyed Jumpgate because I fell into the FPS scene (Unreal Tournament, Quake, etc,)

What I am basically looking for is complexity. The harder the game is, the more fun I know I'll have in it. If I could somehow marry X3 and EVE, I would quit life.

I loved X3 too. From my experience, Jumpgate Evolution will be similar in some respects however, until Beta comes out, its all conjecture.

Well,ok he's my look at it...Jumpgate..good solid game with newtoniun flight, why? Because when it was created they couldnt se anything better, its what we HAD and still do, but thats changing.
Eve...a decent game, good graphics, especially after the last update...like having a big variety of ships to buy, only partially like having to skill to earn them,lol. Hate third person flying, enough said.
X2-3-? good solid game , good graphics, posible online Universe in planning, but not yet, advanced flight mod, why? Because in the future when 50% of all goofs are allowed to fly newtoniun will be in the history books, they just couldnt let the average Joe try flying that way, stations are expensive and owned by players, sometimes you, but they have agreat assortment of ships, and no skilling, money talks...good mining, and first person shooter. Unless we cant see the tech diference between the phone in our pockets and the one sitting on grandmas table, we will see huge automated piloting that never even is worth mentioning in the future, or we just wont go at all, ok..thats my comparison, and a small tech rant...lol.

No it's not. It's still there. Just because some glossy eyed peeps went goo goo ga ga over the dampeners in a hastily thrown together client at connect doesn't mean they aren't going to get their asses kicked if they use them. Newtonian will still be the dominant flight mode.

Honestly, physics is somewhat last on my mind. I have never flown a space craft, and so it makes it difficult for me to compare a flight sim to one. But I surely compare driving simulators, as I have actually driven on race tracks in SCCA events Physics knowledge is one thing. Having the experience to know how to react to a particular situation is another. Of course, I am NOT saying I don't want the physics to be as correct as possible. X3 did feel some what odd in relation to what should be happening.

But I'm not just looking for a flight sim, I'm also looking for something as deep as the economy system and manufacturing system is in EVE.

Well there is no atmosphere so this isn't a flight sim. It's a space combat sim where the drag is non-existent and inertia is the main factor in flight decisions.

Jumpgate Evolution will, to some extent, build upon and update the "game model" in Jumpgate Classic -- so the best suggestion I have is to give Jumpgate Classic a whirl . . . at least for a month or two. And then imagine it with awesome graphics and newer-MMO accoutrements.

You're going to love it Flybye. You would have loved "classic" during it's heyday I'm sure. The economy is deep and figuring out where to get commods to make stuff....do you mine it, haul it?...do you haul through hostile space for quicker profits but likely lose some money hiring a couple of escorts to get you there in one piece....it's a ton of fun. Players have made spreadsheets and linked tools to help people figure out the best profit runs and where to find stuff. Combat is pretty rockin too....very fps skill based. The variety of activities is huge....make money mining and help the economy, haul goods for profit....get hired to haul goods through dangerous space during war time for huge profits but equally huge risk...explore....fight NPCs (MOBS) or PVP in a war setting.....pirate in unreg space forcing haulers to stop and stealing their stuff if you can get past their escorts that is......You're going to love it.
