Re: Massively.com Interview With Questions From Players
That's not a good attitude for a gamer to have. If all gamers thought like that we would be playing jacks and pick up sticks. The greasy wheel gets the grease my friend. For all we know they are just trying to see who and how many say yay. And if you don't like it it's your job to say nay. And if in the end you don't like it it's your job not to pay. That's commerce and that's how things get done.

Re: Massively.com Interview With Questions From Players
Im not a super big fan of WoW in space.
I do remember this though, Pilot gets killed in reg space. Squad gets together and goes hunting ect... I always liked the fact that if someone went after a member of the -=MACK=-, that there would be retaliation involved or some sort. I never wanted to fly for a squad that was completely immune to all the threats, including being pirated, in space. I think the threat of being killed brings emotions and realism to the game. Which is why it has kept most of us still here devoted to Jumpgate in the first place. |

Re: Massively.com Interview With Questions From Players
Here is the thing though. Not everyone thinks like you, or me, or the next person to post. They are going to broaden the scope of the game. They are going to market to every person out there that might even think about playing this type of game. They want numbers.
I can live with that, and all we have to do is come up the way for us to build in "the rest" of the game while also fine tuning what we have, and find a way to make it co-exist. |

Re: Massively.com Interview With Questions From Players
I think this no harm thing is a fantasy load of crap. It is only assumed it will sell. Just like 3DO assumed they would go on forever and Jumpgate would sell. Business marketers are speculators and they lose peoples money as often as they make people money, maybe more often. There is absolutely no guarantee that bumper cars in space is going to sell just because WoW does. People want some kind of risk. That's is why gaming exists.
Nobody would have played Pong if their ball always hit the paddle. No one would have played Space Invaders if they didn't come down to get you. Not a single person would have played Pac Man if the little colored blobs didn't eat the little yellow blob. We would never have heard of Asteroids if the rocks didn't kick your ass. Who would remember Chess without Check Mate? Las Vegas would be empty if there wasn't the chance to lose your shirt or more. Charlie Brown would have never tried to kick the ball again if he didn't fall on his ass the first time. Who would have ever tossed a penny if it always hit the line? Nascar would suck without losers and crashes. #3 forever Can you imagine Pinball if the ball never went down the hole? There is a reason why the Bumper Car ride is only a few minutes long. There is a reason why thousands have said if only Jumpgate had better graphics and people playing. Because it's a kick ass game and people like risk. 3DO didn't go under because it didn't produce WoW. Themis didn't sit on their ass and do nothing because WoW was coming anyway so why try. And Emma never stopped anyone from going back to Hyperial. Jumpgate was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. One thing I do know, if bumper cars in space doesn't sell it sure won't be around 8 years from now. What was the topic of this thread again? |

Re: Massively.com Interview With Questions From Players
I finally sat down and read the interview. I have been on the fence with investing too much time in the whole Jumpgate Evolution thing, as I am very concerned with the path ND is walking (or seems to be walking). My favorite part, as it was for many of you, was:
" In Jumpgate Evolution, you don't die when you crash into things -- you don't lose all your stuff." I read this about 14 times trying to figure out exactly how the hell this sounds like a good idea, and that he can't REALLY mean what this says. I mean, are the ships going to make a big "DOINK" sound when you hit a station and then bounce off? I just don't know....I need to get my shit together and get busy. |
