I tend to agree -- but some of this has to do with player numbers. If you had large battles with lots of people in Jumpgate Classic, relatively new PvPers in LFs could make an impact and have fun. In smaller multi-ship battles (like now), they can be isolated and eliminated more easily.

and the way the vast majority of different ships became useless as you increased in level (FT, T, LM, scout).
I don't have any real issue with some ships becoming obsolete. But I have always endorsed increasing the FT cargo and thrust to make it a smuggler/blockade runner ship-of-choice -- and increasing the cargo cap for the Transport.

Thats not really so true. The LF/MF guns were too weak, and the ships were too slow to be effective at all. They could be a neucense, but thats about it. Very rarely would a LF/MF be able to actually kill someone, or get them down enough that they could be killed by someone else. Most of the time you would just spend trying to chase down someone, only to have them outrun you again.

You could join a fight in a shuttle in a big battle and have fun, but you weren't effective until you hit level 26 (or at least 15 to chase down wounded). The LFs and MFs couldn't even catch the ships with more guns and certainly couldn't run from them.

I'll give you that numbers will generally make a lot of things better, but even in small battles lower level players in Jumpgate now are much better off than lower level players in Jumpgate's best days.

I also think it's a lot better if ships don't become obsolete. I certainly missed seeing hurricanes in the space lanes.

I wouldnt go that far, the sol LF could be a pain to kill. I distinctly remember getting my MF/HF ass handed to me by a skilled LF pilot. Although, I never was good at PVP...but still.

That is only because of the profile of the ship. And in most cases you could just run away from it anyway since it was slower than the fighters....of coarse unless it was artied, but then it didn't have the FF to get away if needed.

Re: Netdevil could learn something from this review

Net, I thought you have not been playing. I was referring to the current ship configs in a situation where there were LOTS of people -- not the ships you ar remembering. And I did not say the LFs had a lot of "pop"--but they could be used to run down damaged enemies and finish them off. And if flown in a pack they could be pretty nasty.

Look what the old "Bits" (10110010 guys) used to do in their Vaders.

It's all pretty moot since the shiops are all changing. But my contention remains that if the ships are anything like LFs and MFs, new-ish players (current level 15+) will be able to participate in, and enjoy, large furballs.

Re: Netdevil could learn something from this review

I know. For about I week I think. But it sounds as if his very definitive opinions about ship abilities are not so current. One of the best PvP ships in the game is now the Tempest -- which is available at lvl 18.

I think he is just commenting as he goes. I'm sure it takes awhile to take it all in.

Does he really need you to defend him? He seemed more than willing to make replies for himself the last time I checked

Re: Netdevil could learn something from this review

Ambro, sorry I was confusing LF with MF, the sol LF isn't that bad, and is pretty quick.

The MF, the invader is the one I was saying is paper thin. And as far as being current, I'm yet to even see a tense in RS, all the sols are running the vader....so that just goes to show how much better it is. If you try to use a Oct MF against it, you are too slow to keep up with it.

Now you want completely uber, check out an Artied gust, or at least it used to be....the extreme low mass would allow you to circle anyone to death, as long as you have good aim, and they can't run.
