Re: New min spec for Jumpgate Evolution

to have it in Jumpgate Evolution. Of course, if it doesn't take too much time and resources to code this. If it does, move it to "would be nice" list of post release patches . |

Re: New min spec for Jumpgate Evolution
Man.. we have some serious power-gamers in here. No wonder i could never compete in a PvP environment
![]() For the record, i hate MicroSoft as much as the next guy. But they do have a bit of a benchmark flight simulator software package. And theirs is recommended to run at 1024x768. So if jumpgate, which isn't just a flight simulator, is running one step below one of the premiere flight simulators out there, we should still probably be able to see some general prettiness, without loosing very much of the market segment. Course, i'm biased, because i prefer content over appearance. Still, point stands. ![]() |

Re: New min spec for Jumpgate Evolution
With the hardware industry being in warp drive the way it has been for the past few years, it's not really that surprising to see so much disparity between low- and high-end computers nowadays. If you figure that my car and my computer were both built the same year (2005), my car's still considered new, yet my computer is just "meh" in comparison to what's on the market today. Taking into account that my rig is (was, since it's fried now, but that was due to a brown out) a purpose built gaming system, it's still starting to show it's age.
That being said, if the minimum system reqs can be set to 800x600 with an antiquated gfx card and still allow the high end computers to render the kinds of images we're seeing from the dev team (been awhile since we've used that term for Jumpgate ), I'm all for it. |

Re: New min spec for Jumpgate Evolution
Personally, I can do 1024x768 easily ("with one hand tied behind my back", pretty much), but I can understand wanting to allow the most access to the game.
That said, starting at 800x600 shouldn't be too much of a problem... if the station interface can be turned up beyond that point. That's probably my biggest gripe about Jumpgate Classic's graphics, that I can't choose a station resolution that works for me. (Mind you, I still regularly play games from the early/mid 90s, including some VGA stuff. Obviously, ZOMGWTFBBQ graphics aren't the highest focus for me. ) |

Re: New min spec for Jumpgate Evolution
I'm working on my new min spec here. Closing in on my final descision for my new rig.
I just need to decide whether to get Vista or XP and then get the nerve to click the button and watch all that money disappear. ![]() |

Re: New min spec for Jumpgate Evolution
Jump, if your going to play any older games, stay with XP.
If you are going to play games that have been created from now to future, go with Vista. I personally dont care for vista as MS has basically turned windows into a Mac. Plus there are too many things running in the background that eat processing cycles. Most people get better performance out of their games from XP. Of course as newer games take advantage of vista's internals, that could change. But as of right now, the gamers choice is still XP. |

Re: New min spec for Jumpgate Evolution
True that, alphabet, but the same exact things were said about XP when it was still 2 months old.
The question i had to ask myself was what sort of longevity did i want from my machine? If i'm planning to replace it in 6-9 months or so, then xp all the way. If i want it to last much longer than that before i throw more money at my computer time, then getting the operating system that will be dominant during that time frame only makes sense. It's always been painful to be an early adapter. ![]() |

Re: New min spec for Jumpgate Evolution
Vista is going to take a lot longer to become mainstream than xp. I am getting letters from Microsoft at bi-weekly and one certified letter about the issue with validation of Vista. Lots of XP aps do not work with Vista, including Intuit QuickBooks 2006 and they are not going to port em,ditto for dozens of business software packages.
My specs AMD Althon 2700 BFG Tech 7800 GS AGP 256 (Some guy gave it to me) 2 gig of ram 1 terabyte of Hard Disk space (320 largest interior Drive) AC97 audio (on board) Wide Screen 1440x900 display This is my weakest machine, but it I do my gaming on it as it had nothing mission critical. |

Re: New min spec for Jumpgate Evolution
Yar, stick with XP.
And 1024x768 should be minimum. 1280x1024 is what I game at... on both my monitors. My system's coming up on a year old I think. AMD 3500 2 GB DDR2 2x GeForce 7800 GT 9NPA+ nForce 4 SLi mainboard Audigy 2 Though I'll be making something on par with the next 'Hotrod' type build Ars Technica comes out with every few months. |
