To recruite back vets graphics are quite uninteresting. Most vets can play the game on the old graphics, thats not why they left. Its easy to discuss why people left you can blame it on companies, squads or what ever but what it boils down to is that everyone had done everything there was to do in the game sooo many times. Vets need new gameplay to come back.

Tied for first for the vets is more people. To get more people the game needs to get new people.

So inorder for this to work graphics have to get an upgrade (even if it costs a few vets) and gameplay needs an upgrade inorder to get any vets.

So what Im saying is screw the old farts that sitt on their 800x600 64MB cards and make the game sellable. If it becomes sellable and new people come the vets will come as well and when the vets come the old farts will buy new PCs.

Re: New min spec for Jumpgate

Yeah lets have the game dump on the guys who have stayed with it thick and thin and ubercharge it to win back them who left it for dead. Sweet.... :/

I like the option of high spec, but a low spec option is a selling point too - if it can be done concurrent to the upgrade.

I play another sim too or did till they upgraded the graphics for vista which in turn halfed the fps on my xp system - I dont play it now and the games forum dried up too (which i take as an indication of a drop in overall interest). Making sure it runs on low spec but is sweet on a high spec seems smart to me.

Re: New min spec for Jumpgate

I agree in part people do need to move with the times Jumpgate is an old game and the Tec has moved on 10 fold since it came to be, I know not all people can afford the latest all singing all dancing PC hell I know I cant, I do it a bit at a time but im still only in the lower mid range of computing.

Jumpgate needs more than new graphics to win back people and keep new people logging in day after day, one of the reason im playing EVE right now is because I have done all there is to do in Jumpgate and with out the lack of GM interaction in to anything story driven my interest faltered then became anger then hit boiling point then I ran for my life. EVE is giving me a new thing to do day after day, like it or hate it Im not talking about that Im talking about the fact that it has more content and keeps getting more.

Give Jumpgate its shinny face lift, but if it takes a bit longer to add some content and make it the rich living evolving universe that many off us know it could be then please take the time it takes to make it. It might look nice but if there is nothing under the hood then it’s a one time drive.

Re: New min spec for Jumpgate

Netdevil needs to do what is good for business (i.e. good for Jumpgate survival). Part of that is addressing the wants of us old-timers . . . but I suspect it's a small part. Given the numbers, re-attracting former players should probably be more important. They know the current 80-100 players have already weathered every storm and are likely to persist through just about anything. So if 20-25 drop (probably a very high number) because of changes (or lack thereof) that would hardly hit the radar versus the numbers they know they need to be able to attract.

As an admittedly absurd example: if you decide to re-make Jumpgate as a click-click-click Eve clone, and project 50,000 regular players, are you going to care if 100 people who play the current version dissapear because they don't like it?

I see where you're coming from, but realistically speaking, an 800MHz machine running a 64Mb video card shouldn't be able to play any computer game I would classify as "modern". Not when you can have said processor and video card upgraded for next to nothing these days.

well, I must admit, I have an 800 MHz processor, but I believe my card is 256 meg.

I don't' see why not? As long as it scales per your hardware why not let older computers still be able to play it?
