I asked over at jumpgateevolution.com about the colour of the "vapour trails" but I think that thread got side-tracked so no one seems to have responded.

Are the sol ships blue, oct orange and quant green as appears to be the case?

If so, what can we expect for AI? or is the AI factional too?

No the oct trails are definatly yellow (as in bellied).

Nuts. I knew that failing to check this thread was going to burn me. Let me try to catch up.

All the Quantar ships look a bit like sunfish or angelfish to me. For each faction we have a much greater consistency of style since we have one artist doing the concept work (unlike for Jumpgate Classic). I think this is also why people are suggesting the Solrain ships they're seeing are "variants" of the Halcyon.

It is the Quantar transport. There IS at least one screenie around where that concept is shown in-game. I'm thinking of the one where we see a Quantar ship from aft, as it dips into a docking bay and all you can see is station, with a cargo tow also headed in. We have seen Quant fighters, at least in the vid - there are two of them (I think) seen pursuing and firing on another ship.

Yes, that one is the one I'm thinking of when I say "Quant fighter". I don't *think* we've shown a Quant starter ship yet, but it's getting hard to keep track of all the screenies. That's one reason I'm asking for people to post a shot in the thread here for me to see, to be sure I'm talking about the right ship.

Per my comments to GrimGriz, I think you are just seeing other Solrain ships and they are similar enough that you are concluding they are "based on" the Halcyon. Actually, the Halcyon is one of the more distinctive Sol ships, with its doubled-fuselage design.

The fansite graphic on the Jumpgate Evolution site appears to show a Sol fighter. The angle makes it hard to tell for sure. It's certainly not one of our cap ships.

All the Quant ships that don't pull containers have a vertical axis that exceeds their horizontal axis, which I think is giving you the "fishlike" impression. Stop thinking of fish and think of Minbari War Cruisers from Babyon 5. I hope that will cheer you up.

Yep, that's the concept for the Oct light fighter.

Yes, the ion trails are factional-colored, blue, red, and green. This was decided on because the trails are what you tend to see from a distance, so though it's painfully unrealistic, it helps SITA/IFF. The "independents" are yellow(ish). The TRI drones we've seen use that color.

Striker and I have argued heavily for retaining color changes indicating AB, etc., since that is helpful for changing aim and flight prediction SITA in dogfights. It remains to be seen how/whether this will be accounted for. Possibly it will be done with an applied particle or other change to the trail.

Well kick Striker in the balls and win the argument already. And you have to use particles for AB, thats like the coolest graphic element in Jumpgate Classic.

I was thinking normal AB looks like Jumpgate Classic AB trail, and super AB (FF replacement) has MASSIVE amount particles going everywhere. Much cooler than a purple trail.

Quantar asks for fighters and you give us FISH!

Actually, Istvan, I do like the Quantar fighter design. It looks graceful with clean lines. Please make it fast and maneuverable in the tradition of the Typhoon.

I am inclined to believe there will not be a "yaw fighting Tensy" issue. Lateral thruster control will change Jumpgate combat for the better.

P.S. I think Sunfire would be good name for the fighter. It a mix of Sunfish and Spitfire.
