Opti-rewards?

I thought the opti-awards they started implementing in jumpgate were a stroke of genius. I remember some of the Solidarity guys going back to leveling up just to get the military map (which was a little too useful to be limited just to optis in my opinion). What do you think the chances are that they'll be special abilities available only to the highest levels in Jumpgate Evolution?

Re: Opti-rewards?

I think it's great, however, I would rather them just add levels as the game progresses. That is if there are levels. Of that we do not know for sure yet.

Re: Opti-rewards?

I don't like it, because OPTIMUS LIET sounds doofy, whereas VENDICTOR LIET sounds awesome. I used to pay lvl 3s to let me civ em a few times if I was in danger of leveling.

You just can't argue with that kind of logic.

Re: Opti-rewards?

But if your name was Prime, then you could be Optimus Prime! :P

Yeah I think top-lvl abilities would be a decent idea...but what abilities I wonder?

Re: Opti-rewards?

I for one love the Mil Map. I'm not sure how I feel about it being limited to Optis only, mainly because *I* took the time to do all that leveling so I get to use it.

I think its a great reward, and seeing as there arn't any others (oooh a shiney medal, whooopedoo), I think I want the mil map to stay the way it is. I don't like how it takes away your XP, but at least its such a tiny amount I can keep my XP where it is just by killing a couple flux everytime I use it. I will say, the fist icon is kinda bugged some times. It will look like its on, but its not, and you hit it again, only to turn it on without noticing the one block, and the icon still looks the same, so you click it again, and now its on and you realize you just wasted 2k XP. I would like it if the switch were a bit more obvious.

Re: Opti-rewards?

I think we should all be very leery of any high level-based benefits in what should be a skill-based PvP game.

Re: Opti-rewards?

I can't disagree with that Liet, but I don't think that the benefits we did have were combat related enough to negatively affect skill-based combat. In fact, I think the tuning and untuning of beacons element for the military map added a small new skill set to fleet engagements.

Its a button the map (looks like a fist) that when you click it, will put a colored square above sectors with the beacons turned your faction color.

So if all oct space is flipped red, and there is a sol in DG, you hit the button a blue square shows up above DG telling you there is a MT sol there. Also if there are MT octs in oct space the red square will show you where you can look for backup

Re: Opti-rewards?

How's it work, anyway? I've never seen it used, since I haven't been an Optimus in a very, very long time. If the beek is your color, you see where other HGs are? Doesn't that pretty overwhelmingly benefit multi-factional squads?

I don't really like the idea of knowing where an enemy fleet is, to be honest, even if it benefits me. I'm an obstinate, stubborn, grumbling old-schooler, though.

Edit: Ah, thanks for the explanation netburnrol. I don't like it for another reason... feldman is in Solicidal, and they're at war with Octavia... why would the Empire share with him our beacon information? This MT Map thing is yet another short-sighted mechanic that hampers and ignores roleplay and instead encourages the sad "blue/red/green are your enemies, and if you see a bounty shoot at it without question" mentality.

Dump it or try to fix it.

Re: Opti-rewards?

My personal theory was that in the second half of the mil patch when you introduced privateering, the mil map would work for whatever group you signed up with, and that hyperial was going to be the rebel/pirate group. So multifactional squads could pick a side (SoliCdidal) or side up with Hyperial (ISU).

Ofcourse, I was also hoping that if you were a quant flying for Octavia you'd show up as a red dot on my radar

@Liet:

Not only u have to be an Opti but also MT. Opti civs wont see the option. The button to use is the old 'claim' toggle. It bills you a world-st
