Phat Loot?

I heard autoassault had Loot. Obtaining phat loot seems to be what keeps a metric buttone of people playing WoW. Do you think Jumpgate Evolution will have loot? Do you think it should? I personally wouldn't mind one of a kind/hard to produce guns and ship equipment, especially since unlike other mmo they would presumably be destroyed when your ship was. I'm very much against "looting" the wreckage of other ships, or conflux loot drops though.

What are your thoughts?

Re: Phat Loot?

I do consider 'Artifacts' to be a form of Phat Lewt, except that you didnt get artifacts through grinding space boars or fighting the uber level 99 Capital ship.

I also want Artifacts to stay in Jumpgate: Evolution. Actually, I want more artifacts.

Re: Phat Loot?

More varied and interesting artifacts, but keep their power balance like they are now. Having to grind for gear on a constant basis doesn't make sense in a game like Jumpgate that focuses on the people.

I always likes the Elite model where cargo cannisters where dropped when a ship was destroyed. I understand why it was not implemented when Jumpgate was first released but shouldn't be any problem now.

Re: Phat Loot?

****. Lewt is a necessary evil in the current MMO world and I'd be surprised if Jumpgate Evolution didn't have it in some form or another. I hate it, but I like tons and tons of n00b pilots online more.

I've always wondered about the arti-hunting... player-type. (can I push my "class" idea here?) I thought it was extremely boring, even though one of my best in-game friends was a full-time arti-hunter, mostly for the sake of collecting a full set. I really felt that arti-hunting was a mindless activity, and while I love the fact that arti's are elite equipment, I never felt it was worth hunting them. I could flux up 40 million credits in a day or two of flux space and buy my CM4 instead of hunting months for it. Perhaps an auction system will allow arti-hunters to sell their wares in-game...

Personally, I think that arti's should be in Jumpgate Evolution but the process of finding them needs to be more involved then, "1) download 3rd party software, 2) equip rotacol, 3) fly in pre-selected pattern."

Re: Phat Loot?

I agree. Artifacts seem preferrable to "loot," but the current arty hunting process makes your head explode from boredom.

Explode? How about implode?

I can't tell if JGRotPro's arti-on-radar detector made it better or worse...

Re: Phat Loot?

the problems with World of Warcraft Phat loot is that it has a huge impact on PvP. In WoW, If I get an ubersword of pwnmanship, a couple things happen:
  1. I can never ever lose it
  2. it makes me much more powerfull
  3. other players can see it on my avatar
All those things will cause issues for Jumpgate. #1 and #2 is critical for these type of "collector" players. They don't want to lose the item once they get it. Adding that type of functionality to Jumpgate will screw up the player econopmy and If Veterans gather a bunch of artifacts, they will kick the crap out of newer players that don't have them.

#3 isn't as important, but still causes issues.

I don't think anyone is going to log in, fly around for 5 hours, then think to themselves "I'm going to quit, I haven't picked up a Cracker Laser +2 yet!"

The arty system needs to be more varied and fun, and the levelling and mission process needs to be dynamic and fun.

Levelling (and going to different stations) will unlock gear, which always satisfied loot hunger for me. And when they get to the higher levels, they can arty hunt with the new ranger they just bought.

I don't see a problem. When the game gets the Super-Pretty Upgrade along with all the (hopefully) tweaks, a lot of the game systems that are already in will show their true worth

WoW works because the slow acquisition of gear and skills makes the player slowly feel more powerful.

The focus behind the new Jumpgate should be to make the levelling process give the player new equip, ships, and teach them to fly at the right pace so that they feel like they are getting more powerful and more able to affect the world around them. At the same time, make sure that the game is showing them what the world around them is like, which will let them see what they will be needed for/able to do in the universe once they are sufficiently strong.

The original Jumpgate told you nothing. That was the downfall more than anything.

Re: Phat Loot?

Meh, I seriously hope that leveling doesn't make you more powerful, just gives you more options. Leveling didn't really work in Jumpgate, technically it was more fun to fly an LF or a Hurricane than an HF or a Tow.

Re: Phat Loot?

I would be against all 'loot' unless its from the cargohold of a trading vessel.

Re: Phat Loot?

Looting would be ok by me as long as it was directly related what what your looting. Conflux should drop biomass or something. And ships drop either parts or what they are carrying... not all of it.. but a chance that something survived the explosion of your ship. I don't want to see a squid drop a morning star or something.

Re: Phat Loot?

hmmm, maybe have arti's easier to find but defended by npcs to make it more exciting? Oh and I have to say, I whole heartedly agree with what GG said about the leveling issue.
