PhysX Support?

I was toying around with the idea of buying one of these cards, mainly to check out warmonger...but it would be added bonus if Jumpgate Evolution had support for it. Any word on this? ND always seemed to be the leader in the Physics dept when MMOs come up.

Would you guys buy a PhysX card for Jumpgate Evolution ?

Re: PhysX Support?

I would, but I don't see it happening if it'll be a system requirement since they're trying to make it playable for as many people as possible.

Re: PhysX Support?

I would think that would require modify the game engine to support them. Seems unlikely to me...

Re: PhysX Support?

I personally wouldn't buy such a card, but I can't see why it can't be a possible option for Jumpgate Evolution, since they're (as I understand it) rebuilding the code from the ground up, instead of just trying to patch up the coding kludge that is Jumpgate Classic.

Re: PhysX Support?

I would rather see TrackIR support and the game mechanics in place to need to look around.

Re: PhysX Support?

No. This is why they're building Warmonger. They're making a free game to get past the chicken and egg stage of PhysX. Personally, I think PhysX is going to be useless when computers are going the multi-core route. One of 8 CPU's could be dedicated to physics in the next two or so years.

Still, I would be really sad if Jumpgate Evolution required PhysX, but if they added spectacular ship explosions with it, I might be urged to purchase said card in the future. Gameplay first, shiny-objects second.

Warmonger has piqued my interest as well, but only because I think of it as a sort-of "tech-demo/good-faith-investment" on the part of Net Devil and Ageis.

Re: PhysX Support?

There is no PhysX support in Jumpgate Evolution right now. However in Warmonger it is really so cool. The stuff we can do is really amazing with that card.

Track IR support is in the game now.

Re: PhysX Support?

TrackIR support is a must for any flight sim. Its not like it gives you any significant advantage per se, however it is one of those things that totally immerses you into the game, like sound, graphics and storyline.

Move your head left, you look left, move your head right, you look right, etc.

It makes you feel more like you are flying than just moving the hat, num keys around on your js/keyboard.

Re: PhysX Support?

So you don't have to use it for the pitch and roll then? That might be a bit too much for me.

Re: PhysX Support?

No man, it doesnt control your ship, it controls which way you look.

Turn your head left, the camera (view) looks left. Got it?

Re: PhysX Support?

Interesting. I wonder if using it taxes FPS more so then just using "fixed" camera angles.
