For some reason I have just started playing X3, looks great loads of neat ideas which I would like to see in Jumpgate Evolution, the roids, the NPC cargo trains you can have the list go’s on ( the flight engine sucks so much I spend more time shouting at my pc then flying )

But im now likening the idea of turrets, in X you can either jump in it or give then commands, attack my target, defend agasint missiles, etc. for the slow whale of some of the cargo ships in game its kind of nice to have that added protection ( im sort of hoping Jumpgate Evolution has more than one cargo class of Behemoth ship.

We all know space is dangerous and rightly so Im the first to say Unreg is Unreg if your caught in there with your pants down then its your own fault, I know there is a HUGE difference from a npc world and a MMO world but having some way of defending your self for the civ/hauler/fluxer should be in game some where, Im liking the ideas of real electronic warfare in one of the other threads.

I know... isn't that cool? Talk about a good way to give those econ guys a way to defend themselves... it'd sure make a pirate think twice before PoDing a rich hauler, huh?

Re: Policing Civ rippers

Heh, i was just sitting here thinking about how many cool player-driven RP concepts this bounty thing could facilitate, and I realized it's just a big exploit waiting to happen.

It sure as heck will fix civ rips.. if I want to rip a civ, i'll just post a bounty on him first, then immediately collect it. Or have a buddy post it, even. If i put a 10K bounty on everybody, that'll sure clean up civ rips. Heh.

Too bad... it was a great idea.

install a player regulated system where someone who civs a pilot is susceptable to bounties placed on them by other players (keep it so that bounties can only be placed on civ rippers, or else it would get totally out of hand)
Apparently Lordopic and Tim need to learn how to read.

Re: Policing Civ rippers

Well, there are ways to exploit the system, for example: Say I civ Seph in freighter. As a result, the games places a contract out on me worth one bounty. So GG places a bounty on me worth 25mil (or whatever the max bounty ceiling is). I can exploit that by sending SS a whisper asking him to take the contract. I'll let him rip me and we'll split the payout 50/50.

A possible way to counter that would be to make it so that the payment is released only on the authority of the contract financier. If my 25mil contract on Liet gets claimed by G.Rasp, it's a pretty obvious scam. But on the flip side, that opens the door for some low-brow back alley deals to be made that might add some flavor to the game if you think about it.

The time hack bounty idea resulted from my memories of chasing Squik around (for civving a bunch of n00bs that came over during the exodus from E&B) with Liet and thinking how much more fruitful an endeavor it would be if we could somehow force him to disappear for a set amount of time by poding him. While I agree that forcing a player offline for a certain amount of time is a harsh penalty, it also comes with the territory.

Re: Policing Civ rippers

A hauler loses a lot of money getting killed by some annoying person, and they pays out the nose to put a bounty on them? I don’t see this as being an effective system to base a civ penalty regime on.

It would be cool to have as a sideshow, but it is exploitable as discussed.

Re: Policing Civ rippers

oooh oooh I know!
If you civ someone, the next time you dock you are taken into custody, and for the next 24 hours of actual playtime you get to avatar inside a prison cell. Every 20 minutes you have to answer a series of random multiple choice questions correctly to make sure you're not burning off your time afk or you get disconnected.

I still don’t like the idea even though I now have had my question answered.

Re: Policing Civ rippers

Everything here seems to be about discouraging civ rippers. To me civ rippers make Jumpgate exciting. It would be better to actually make a provision for it in the game (i.e. make it a playable, sustainable RP), and then build limits and controls around it.

Re: Policing Civ rippers

Exactly Ambro. As long as any swinging dick can get in a fighter and shoot down another ship, there will be "civ ripping", regardless the semantics involved.

If Jumpgate and its players acknowledge this and accept this, then we can develop systems and mechanisms that will help to keep a level playing field.

You have to have a level playing field before you can keep one. You guys don't like getting civ ripped, you like the possibility of getting civ ripped or the ability to civ rip yourself.
