No one is sampling Jumpgate Evolution in its current pre-alpha state. No one. Even our fellow employees here at NetDevil are clamoring to be let in, but that's not happening.

As I've tried to emphasize in the public interviews I've been allowed to do, we've got a lot to do before we have what we consider to be a playable game for people to play around in.

Plans are also under way for a formal newsletter that will go out to everyone on that list at some regular interval. When we are ready, the beta signup mailing list will be our first point of contact, filtered for current players.

We're not offering estimates for either release or for beta, because our preferred statement is "when it's ready". The screenies look good because the art team is incredible and the AI system is doing its job filling up space. That does not mean that all the systems have been reconnected or new ones built to replicate the experience Jumpgate Classic players expect when they push "launch".
Spring may be optimistic.

well... there is a pretty significant number of conspiracy theorist folks who think the world will end in 2012. So we may not ever see it. 2012 isn't that far off in terms of JumpGate development time...

Re: predictions on launch date

Grimm, most of us that have been in this community for six or seven years and have been through all the ups and downs hope it comes out when it's good and ready. Your ideas of a core game being there are probably a bit too optimistic. Yes it has the D.A.N.C.E.R. flight engine, but I am sure the code needed a lot of reworking. I'm not sure if it had any 16 bit code like the installer but if it does in needs to go. I would be willing to bet that the code base will be 80% new and the 20% that remains will be kicked around some and then maybe some more.

This is a unique opportunity for NetDevil since they hold the IP for this game. Whether they fail or succeed in this venture will say a lot about them as a company and could be instrumental in their future of NetDevil, good or bad. They can't afford to make hasty decisions. The good news is there are no publishers to demand hasty decisions. It's all on their shoulders this time.

So whenever it's ready I am ready to play. In the meantime I'm ready to discuss and speculate. And if they ever get the 16 bit code removed from the installer and update the net code, I would be ready to play the current game. As it is right now, Vista x64 leaves me looking in. I just wish they would give us more stuff to show off.

Oh, and welcome to Joystick Required.

Does anyone else hate "Soon(tm)"?

That term makes me want to run away and never come back.

Re: predictions on launch date

FWIW, it's my understanding that "Soon(tm)" was coined by Josh -- who is best know for making a debacle of EPII. I believe just about everyone at NetDevil cringes at the term.

In terms of timing, I agree that Netdevil's unique position with Jumpgate allows them a certain independence. Hopefully, though, they understand that in the overall formula is "buzz factor." There's a fair amout of buzz around the game right now. It won't last forever. If you wait too long, the game is old before it's released.

I heard that rather than "soon", "next Friday" is now the official response.
Therefore, next Friday(tm).

Re: predictions on launch date

LOL

I agree with Ambro tho, if they wait too long, the game will be old news and new players will be fewer. The Hyp needs to be focused but not prolonged.

I'm still of the view that when they get it right is when it should be released but... Hurry up ND
