About This Page About This Page: This is a discussion on PVP - what dont you like. within the Jumpgate Evolution General Discussion forums, part of the Jumpgate Evolution Forums category, at Joystick Required Forums. The great thing about Sharding is that you can have a hardcore PvP server (as in Jumpgate Classic with NO tags) and have a separate PvE server. Something for everyone.

Re: PVP - what dont you like.

There was nothing I did not like about PvP, other than those not willing to do their part to help production and whining that they never had the good guns or engines because they blew them all on.

While people complain about Jumpgate Evolution turning into WoW in space, there is a great deal of people that don't want Quake in space.

Re: PVP - what dont you like.

To me PVP is much more then launching and fighting players that are marked enemy on my radar.

To me PVP is about Playing against other Players to achieve a goal. Pure combat pvp with no meaning behind it gets boring very quickly. My personal character RP and official but envolving Game story, is often very important when it comes to my actions ingame. So I will not always be doing the same thing no matter what.

The way I see it, Jumpgate has lost much of the PVP it had. I always used the PVP element in games to evolve my character. Because all my characters will always be trying to be the best at what they do. Even if I as I player cant compete with better skilled players on everything, I still tried. This gave my characters goals, to be the richest, the most evil, the bravest defender of specific faction, Fearest pirate, or whatever.

What I currently dont like with how the entire PVP works is that it is very very limited, and in Jumpgate Evolution it will be even more limited from the sounds of it. I cant RP in that enviorment.

I'm with Lordopic. I least like my absolute inability to develop combat skills to a useful degree. 299 deaths vs 3 kills tells the story pretty graphically, even if most of those deaths were non-PvP related.

Hauling i would like a tail turrent, toggable hud for it, 2+ long range morters with 200 meter splash.

Miners i would like seperate gun slots from mining laser slots, and missle slots that would carry two morningstars.

Re: PVP - what dont you like.

The only thing I don't like about the PvP is that when one pilot kills another, the killer obvioiusly 'cheated' and the entire screen fills with name-calling and whining. (well, not ALL the time, but way more often than it needs to)

Honestly? I remember some pretty hilarious F4's from Wizard401, SLAPMAN, and some others, but in reality I'd say this was relatively rare.

But then again I kinda look forward to those F4's cause it makes me feel pretty good that I was able to piss them off that bad. =P Wizard401's were really the best, they need to give him some kind of medal. Oh and Berzerker was awesome!

How would you like the classic pvp model to change for Jumpgate Evolution, if at all.
I'd like it to change as little as possible. I'd rework Flashfires. I'd remove full-firing at full-throttle on the fighters - make it just short of full - this would allow another area where you can balance the ships. Lower the fire-rate on the laser-tens, and raise it on the phoon - but just to tweak them. I'd remove MS.

There wasn't much wrong with it. Why do you ask, carebear? :P :P :P

I'd remove the guns and missiles . . . why can't we just all get along?

Re: PVP - what dont you like.

In the grand scheme, I dislike how POSes (main problem) and huge bank accounts (secondary) make dying in combat meaningless. Back in the day, if you died you occasionally had to load up a Guzzler nix, or *GASP*, stop fighting and admit the other guy won.

Back then it was possible to settle conflicts through fighting.

Because you lick rocks! :P

I haven't been in game for..a long time. But is divebombing still around ? I always used to hate seeing a Premia carrying 2 Lances or something. Missiles' usability being dependent on the ship size would be a good idea. Also, someone posted about missiles' effectiveness, I remember suggesting long ago that missiles have a drastically increased chance to hit, but at the same time do less damage. Or more missile types would be nice - like the Infyrno ones from Freespace
