Re: PVP - what dont you like.
I hope they arn't joking. FF are the worst thing in the game. Without them artifacts would actually be useful, but instead people don't use them because without the FFs in the modx slots they are at a major disadvantage.

Do we really want PvP to be decided by the person who can get greatest number of hard to obtain items? "Horay I found a [purple plug]! I will now pwn all the noobs in battlegrounds!" er, not battlegrounds. I don't know where that came from. *cough* |

Re: PVP - what dont you like.
i dont think arties of current would really throw off pvp too much. i doubt that extra 4% to your capacitor will really help you. =P There are some good arties dont get me wrong, but it just doesn't seem like it'd throw off balance too much, and it'd give death more meaning.

Re: PVP - what dont you like.
I remember back in the day there were these ships called mario tensies. And flown carefully they were nearly unkillable and tended to rape everything. The arti phoon wasn't half bad either.
Can you imagine trying to kill one without multiple ships chain FF-whoring them down? Even with nerfed PCE3s? |

Re: PVP - what dont you like.
well, like you say, the arti engines have been nerfed a lot. those mario-tensies would be easier targets now. Also, while FF's might be gone, i'm sure some kind of nitro-boost system will be in place. You are right for the concern though, it'd have to be balanced carefully.

Re: PVP - what dont you like.
I'd suspect an un-artied FF ship (or group of ships) will have a much better chance against an uber PCE-3 ship than the same situation with no FFs and worse PCE-3s. Without FFs the arti ship could just add in EB2/1 and gain much of that lost speed back anyway.

Re: PVP - what dont you like.
In my experience I found artied ships to be much harder to hit due to their "different" flight characteristics. When sober, or not overly drunk, I consider my aim to be quite good. Arties always put my aim off to a degree where I missed a few shots, that in my position could not afford to miss.
I don't agree that FF were/are a bad thing. They are another aspect of the game that create the need for tactics. The best tacticians are generally the best pilots imo. If they are replaced then I would like to think that they do not take away another aspect to being superior. If as mentioned above some manic ab decrease for short speed bursts were implemented this would create another dimension to combat/evasive/fluxing/trading. The ability however to know how many FF's your enemy has used(and how to react/respond to it) is one of the best skills in Jumpgate imo. I'd be interested to know what others' opinions are on arties making aiming slightly more tricky though. Maybe I was/am in the minority? Regards Al |

Re: PVP - what dont you like.
I agree they were harder to hit. The Intensity has always been a hard ship to hit from many angles, and a faster lighter one that you have to be chasing at high throttle for makes that harder imo.
In an arti phoon I could FF circle a nix like a regular phoon FF circles a dragon. Lord that was fun. |

Re: PVP - what dont you like.
I agree with algore, except that it doesn't have to be FFs that you're counting, as long as you can count them. It required a degree of skill to watch and learn other people's FF habits. But we can do the same with other expendible resources. I want there to be things that you use up in combat in Jumpgate Evolution. FFs were good in that respect. It was just too unbalancing to have tensies with 5 and nixes with 3/4 slots.
I also think a generic speed booster is a good thing. I just don't want to volunteer any mechanics right now :P. |
