Question about space objects

I don't know if this was asked, but I haven't seen it so far.

As things are right now, even with the odd scaling in sectors with objects, everything is tiny. CP's, stations, etc, are itty bitty compared to the scale of the ships. Is this something that will be addressed in Jumpgate Evolution?

I think it would be incredibly cool, not to mention space-filling, to have space objects (don't forget about things like the comm. arrays too) that are closer to proper scale.

Re: Question about space objects

From the screenshots that I have seen, things look pretty big to me

For example, http://www.confluxwar.net/downloads/...024x768-05.jpg, if that is a station docking bay, that looks to be pretty good sized to me.

Re: Question about space objects

it depends. if that is a shuttle coming out of the docking bay, its not that huge. if its a freighter its decent sized. It looks similar to the setup to SolCore though and I cant see the rest of the station, so who knows?

But Im with WileE on this one the current stations are tiny. The problem with alot of People working in Sci-fi settings is they forget the scale of things.

Ten Ton Hammer did an interview with the lead graphics guy. He talks about scale in that. Check it out here: A Jumpgate Evolution Interview with Darrin Klein | TenTonHammer

Good interview that.

My favorite comment from it:

I’ll just say that “Solrain Core Station” was a cruel mistress.

Oh yeah

Re: Question about space objects

Oh this quote is cute...

Ten Ton Hammer - Finally, what should fans of the original Jumpgate and space combat simulators in general expect to see when they enter the world of Jumpgate Evolution?

Darrin - I want new players and old players alike to login and see an immersive, high quality environment, inspired by the original Jumpgate…loaded with players

EDIT: Okay... I just noticed what looks like a capital ship in the third screenshot, and the second screenie has a new ship besides the Halcyon in it. Also look for the "docking dots" that I'm assuming are replacing the docking rings in screens 3 & 4.

Re: Question about space objects

Scale of objects is MUCH bigger now in Jumpgate Evolution. Some asteroids are huge and the new stations are giant. Scale is something everyone wanted bigger.

As resident naysayer, allow me the following:
Larger scale means greater traveling time!

Re: Question about space objects

quit whining. if they do it right you wont notice the travel times. hopefully they will scale up the speeds of the ships as well... Scorch? Buddy, pal, friend?

Re: Question about space objects

Speaking of space objects, as of right now, there is now ship to ship collisions, only ship to object. What are the plans and/or opinions on Ship/ship collisions?
