Re: Remove list of online pilots from jossh
Yea, moving it in-game would be cool. Way too much alt tabbing is required to play Jumpgate currently. Put this stuff inside the game package.
I also would like to see it stay on jossh though too, so I can see what is going on from work ![]() |

Re: Remove list of online pilots from jossh
Am I the only one not wearing blinkers that can remember what happened to online numbers when Jossh went down for many months several years ago?
This not showing online numbers is a tad silly imo. If Jumpgate Evolution is to attract hundreds if not thousands of players who is going to give a flying fack about the way we look at the online pilot lister now? I asked Jimac to post an idea asking for auto kick in the current situation for a fix to what has been said above, before GMK had kittens and threatened the ban stick. People idling while MT should be kicked as it disuades people from logging on thinking there is a gank online. This would fix the pvp situation mentioned above, but why bother if there are going to be hundreds of pilots playing in the future? Regards Al |

Re: Remove list of online pilots from jossh
I see it like this, currently the online pilots list is a detterent, i could deal with it being listed in game but even then i don't think it should. Pirates need carebares to survive, when pirates are logged in no carebares fly. It should be set up like EU though, no random undiscriminate ripping, PODs are burglar piracy are fine and most carebares can deal with paying a POD or losing a few items from there cargo, this is other way to policy it without banning abusive players, for example give cargo ships the ability to have AI escorts that would still allow for a few items to be burgled or a few pilots to kill the tow, but 1 pilot would have difficulties taking it down.
To AL, as far as im concerned the problem is not idle pilots, its the fact that you can look at the online pilots and figure out pretty quickly if its worth logging in or not, especially for the PvP centric players. Im all for a counter for how many pilots are logged in, i think that is needed but does it really matter who those players are. I like the idea of the unknown, rather than knowing. As someone said if they saw pirates online they do something else like go arti hunting, because they can't be harrased. You shouldn't know who or how many pirates are online. |

Re: Remove list of online pilots from jossh
On EU pirates did not show up as pirates/MT iirc on Jossh. Am I remembering this correctly EU guys?
Pirates thus had a little more stealth about them. @Corn. I hear ya. But from OV's POV we sometimes spend a lot of time looking for people that are afk for hours(mainly sols, not quants). I don't get why people stay logged on if they have no intention of being active for 10+ hours(read next day). OV operates a policy of no idling, although obviously I pass out at times but I'm allowed to ![]() I just think with 100/1000's online it just wouldn't be as much of a deal. I would be amused to see how the current Jossh could handle that many individual pilot names though. Taking into consideration it's, err, lack of promptness now. Regards Al |

Re: Remove list of online pilots from jossh
I agree with Hurricane's reasoning on this matter. Who's in-game may well determine what I do and where I do it at. I couldn't care less as to HOW MANY people are in-game. If I have time to play, I play. Who those people are can have a great bearing on what I do when I get there. I have no problem if you want to add the feature in-game, just don't take anything away to accomplish it.

Re: Remove list of online pilots from jossh
You should be able to determin who is online. I don't care if it is through Jossh or online. The difference is that the Jossh data is a few minutes after the actual event.

Re: Remove list of online pilots from jossh
Tim (or was it daslog) talked about how WoW prides itself on it's 12 gazillion online players, but you can't go to the WoW website and search if a player is online. You have to log in and /who. Numbers went down when JOSSH went down because people were too dependent on it and when it wasn't working didn't like it. Same as the FF crisis back when Aman got shut down. It's a crutch. If the crutch is never there, people won't be dependent on it. IMO, it's nothing but a bane to the game.
If you want, put it in game, but make it limited. You can't search TRI databases if a pirate is online unless he's docked at a TRI station or been spotted by a TRI pilot or beacon. And that's his last known location at that time. Like Hurricane said, give the game an element of surprise. When you jump through that gate, will there be a swarm? a pirate? your squadmates? (OK, they should be in guild chat with you, but you get my point) You can still show stats on the website, but only update them hourly, or daily (so you can still give out the awards). Give people a functional website and they will be happy. Tell them what they can and can't have and they will cope. Break something they use all the time and they get frustrated. Players will learn to deal with however Jumpgate Evolution is made, and I hope it's without online pilot info. |

Re: Remove list of online pilots from jossh
I'm kinda with Wild_Bill on this one (the removal of the fence post is scheduled for this afternoon) but I don't really care either way. It's interesting sometimes to see who is online when I cant be (like at work and such) but if I can play then I log in regardless. If it does got the way of the dodo tho I'm fine with that too. I will.....cope
