Rhetorical Poll #2: Space Bumper Cars
ND is considering making all the ships bounce off things such as stations and roids if you slam into them at high velocity. No more Emma. No more trying to cause your opponents to slam into inanimate objects. Sound good? Please vote Yes or No.
Due to the seriousness of this poll, I will not be adding a pie option. |

Re: Rhetorical Poll #2: Space Bumper Cars
It might not be as bad as it looks. There was always bumping in Jumpgate Classic, you only died at high speed. They may have raised the speed (it's energy really, nm) at which a crash replaces a bump.
I don't want them to remove crashes completely, to answer your question. |

Re: Rhetorical Poll #2: Space Bumper Cars
I guess I'll have to re-read the chat log. The only question I saw in any ways regarding collisions is that they don't intend to activate ship to ship collisions, which is basically status quo. Of course, I may have missed a line that said that you can't blow up when you hit something.

Re: Rhetorical Poll #2: Space Bumper Cars
Well, IMO the only way people learn is by appreciating the effects of one's actions and either correct it or do it again. IF people dont die, they won't appreciate it and wont correct their aproaches. Its easier to brake colliding with something rather than doing a 180 thurst to stop....
The nite I almost crashed in my empty tug but with full arti setup it was scary, even though the 180 saved my ship it gave me the chills to even think that I was that close to lose that many high valued artifacts (AB4, EB stack and CM4). If I were to bounce off the station I wouldnt care much about it and it would have never left a mark on me. ELP |

Re: Rhetorical Poll #2: Space Bumper Cars
Ship to ship collisions would be a bad thing unless at very slow speed and we get the bump effect.
But to have it where no object, be it a roid CP, petal, etc, won’t kill you if you smack in to it at fall speed whilst engaging a FF is insane. Some of my funniest and fondest memory’s have involved going pop whilst trying to out manoeuvre some one or something. In lepluie I once had a fight with a C25 in 2201 in a wind storm, knowing any minute it might kill me or one of the many roids in that system and it’s a very heavily roided sector, might get me. So if this is the thinking at ND HQ then please book in to the nearest neuron hospital. If its not can we have some clarification on the matter? |

Re: Rhetorical Poll #2: Space Bumper Cars
Like the day OP launched me from the vents after I had paid 80 mil for a pair of PCE-5's... or the AB4 tow that I crashed with a DSS (I was busy typing) and the HyperTow I had that forgot I had the AB on... and hit the top left market at my pos... or the first AB2 tow I had... which in on aproaching Oct Core... forgot (also) to switch off the AB, so, I rammed the station again....
Man, I'd have this huge supply of artis arounds..... ELP |

Re: Rhetorical Poll #2: Space Bumper Cars
I could see where they might mean that they just tweaked the formula so that it took more velocity and/or mass to create an explosion.
There's no way I want to fly an invincible ship. That's just silly. |

Re: Rhetorical Poll #2: Space Bumper Cars
increasing the kinetic energy resulting in death would be a wise move imo. however hitting any object at cruise should result in a big kaboom (unless it is a very glancing blow). I think some beta testing would be a good way to determine exactly how much kinetic energy (mass and velocity) is needed to get wiped out.
