Re: Which RP Would you prefer?
I chose "new" too. The interesting personal question becomes if the time is fast-forwarded (for example) 500 years, and the RP is significantly changed (e.g. Quantar is now dominated by mining coporations; the prior theocracy having collapsed along with TRI) . . . how can I be "Ambro" any more?
Really the only way for us to meanifully continue our current characters is if a) the timeline for Jumpgate Evolution picks up right away and the storyline remains fairly constant; or b) the whole thing is treated as a "do-over" -- as if Jumpgate Classic never happened. |

Re: Which RP Would you prefer?
Posting this just for the record.
The conflux whipped us and drove us out. We fled through temporary gates established in the anomalies in our Depot Sectors and flew through many sectors (at least 4) until we felt safe enough to stop and try to build up civilization again. In doing so we left a lot behind and it took us a while to build it back up to the point we could once more go forth to conquest. The varying paths we took in leaving mean that now, there are a good many sectors between the factions. We perhaps also discovered other factions we'd never heard of before who we were able to trade with and who gave us hints of where the other factions were now. The core sectors are heavily patrolled and pirates seldom intrude there. Further away from core and things get more dicey. Beyond the factional boundries there are no laws and no one to enforce them. Now we set out to retake our old home sectors but we are also warring for supremacy with the old factions of which we were familar with. OOC this is just a backstory to explain certain game features I'd like to see and to include some of the features suggested by interviews etc. New ships. Conquerable sectors. A lot of unreg sectors between factions. A reason to need to rebuild or build for the first time. Something to discover for ourselves, not just push a button and see a complete map of the universe. Something tangible for the fighters to fight for; something to win besides shinys and bragging rights; something for explorers to find, something for the builders to build and new 'roids for miners to mine. So I guess you could say something new built on the bones of something old that we can still identify with. Yeah, we hope there are going to be thousands of new players who'll never know about Emma, or the rock in Callow's Passage or the flock of rocks near the gate between The Stith and Last Parsec. None of that will mean anything to them but it will mean something to the rest of us. |

Re: Which RP Would you prefer?
Sorry to step on your RP Vorlon (and New Dawn's as well), but I couldn't come up with any other reason we would leave that would give me all the extra sectors between factions I *and others* wanted. I guess you could postulate another race than ran off/over the Conflux and then came after us as well if you choose.

Re: Which RP Would you prefer?
no need to apologise we all have pov's and quite rightly so. My unexpressed point being, I guess, that if we were to get a whoopin by the flux now, how could we have flux in some future, in Jumpgate Evolution without them instantly whoopin our butts again.
For Jumpgate Evolution I think going back in time would be interesting as the flux seen later in Jumpgate Classic would too be recovering from the great collapse that the factions struggle so hard to do now. Course, its just a notion and all with many flaws but an interesting twist none the less, a bit like the Enterprise series of Star Trek being set before Kirk. |

Re: Which RP Would you prefer?
I really don't know how to vote on this. Too much emotion to cloud the judgment. New things are good but old things are fondly remembered. I doubt I would last long if the whole thing was a do over though. Though I have fond memories I would probably get bored much quicker this time.

Re: Which RP Would you prefer?
Mine will be new, with old things added in. An example would be when I start my new character (Viper2c, duh), the whole thing will begin with me turning the space simulator off and heading to the real ship to start my adventures...kinda like Wing Commander, where everything you've done was all just a test, or a run through of things you might see before heading out for real...
...hmmmm Viper2c Lampshade Tazor ...and sometimes just saying "hmmmm" |
