Re: Scorch's IRC Interview

Imo POS did not split the community. POS worked in the more populated, more functional economy in the EU. When the 100 or so EU players joined the 15 or so US players on the US server the economy was broken. The community split because no matter how much EU players pointed out the constant greater numbers on EU, the US econ guys still wanted every one to mine and hold hands for the greater good of having fully stocked stations. The US econ guys are more at fault for splitting the communty imo. To be fair though the community as it is now is mainly EU, or former EU pilots living in a space/ecomony created/destroyed by the US econ guys.

I'm good at making friends.

Re: Scorch's IRC Interview

Econ schmecon, I just didn't want to have to fly around to POS to gear up after battle. They could have done the AH thing and the EU people could have still charged ridiculous prices for gear...it was definitely the flying around to equip part I was against.

Re: Scorch's IRC Interview

My experience was if I wasn't /homed at a POS in the first place but rather at a TRI station, I could generally launch and dock at a single POS and reequip from there. There was generally native equipment in the station and I would only need to get non native from the POS. Markups were usually minimal as POS owners would try and be more competative thus lowering POS prices by natural economic captialist principles.

In hindsight though, I do concede that the community was splintered as those that /homed almost exclusively from POS meant that the old school meeting points of TRI stations was not so prominent. It was a laugh when there was an imminent threat getting everyone in the station HG for battle stations

Re: Scorch's IRC Interview

The EU econ disaster brought us Gank or dock tactics, run-away fighters and stripper/hoarders. No thanks.

Jumpgate Classic's econ worked best as originally designed -- where stations pretty much made all commods and players just has to distribute things a little bit. While I prefer a pleyr-driven econ, it's implementation in Jumpgate Classic was "patchwork" and never made the grade. It wad designed with the iea that most of the people would want to spend most of their time fighting.

Also if you had /homed at a POS and ran out of equipment you now had to go fly HG in a starter gear ship and try to make it to TRI station to either get equipment or change tags until you could find stuff, which is just another example on the long list of crappy implementation of the PoS.

I don't mind seeing PoS in Jumpgate Evolution, but they need to make it less of a band aide, and provide REAL control over how they are used.

Either way, we will all see some time in 2010 what they decide to do. Yeah thats right, I've added another year to my estimated time of release.... Jump you really should make a Jumpgate Evolution Launch contest, person to guess correctly gets first month free or something.

If you were in/not in a squad that meant that situation happened you can not blame the game mechanics. Blame the players you had around you, the squad dynamics.
If your squad were inadequate and left you in a position that you were, excuse my french, fucked, then maybe you want to look at yourselves.
When OV went quiet I adapted and found a way to supply equipment to the masses through my POS. I made my first billion by doing so, in a POS economy where everyone won. People did not have to fly for hours to reequip. They could come to Gore Foundation and equip at a markup and save hours, or sols and quants could do the same within their factional sector POS. For those that claim otherwise you simply DID NOT PLAY THE EU LONG ENOUGH.(markup 2 mil per Nix)
It was only the US server imo that this was not possible. You guys always had the opinion that this was a heathen exercise. How dare thou art reequip from a POS mentality. From the time that EU server closed and 6 times more pilots joined your server you NEVER accepted, and NEVER will accept this fact.
The problem imo was that for years on US server it was Quake in Space. Always unlimited equipment on TRI Stations. Where is the point in death?

I have played models both US/EU economy and PvP. There have been many changes in both through the time. The meaning of death to JumpGate is paramount. In my experience on EU dying meant a lot, in my opinion death on US was a stat. The same has been the case imo ever since.

Ummm, yeah.

How about a single pilot with his own POS, 20 nix loadouts, he dies 20 times, now he is fucked, he has to fly his HG shit box back to a faction station and switch tags. SAME THING without all that crap just spewed forth from your fingers.

Maybe. But it was still just a game. People wanted to have fun and they did, Quake in Space or not.

EU and US servers did have different play styles. People from one will not understand people from the other.

I agree 100%.
The problem is the prejudice of those not understanding both play styles. I don't know it all but it irritates me that people make sweeping comments with only having experienced 50% of Jumpgate.
