Re: Simulation vs MMO
Probably the latter, what with the virtually nil advertising and all. Point is (of the thread) that people who think Jumpgate Evolution is too MMO might still like Jumpgate Classic if you pretty it up a little. Hell, you could throw it in as an added bonus for subscribing to Jumpgate Evolution

Re: Simulation vs MMO
wanna see a little bit of both. but not something like WoW or any other fantasy game set in space. i think so far theyre going in the right direction with what little info we've gotten. the few things that have me thinking is this whole "i keel u and u drops lewt" and having "instanced" areas ( which i think they meant the sim )

Re: Simulation vs MMO
First of all, I assime that when you say "MMO" you mean "MMORPG." If that's not the case, please see my spokesperson, Miss Emily Litella.
Frankly, I always thought Jumpgate was primarily Sim and FPS with just a "dash" of MMO. As you know, I like the heavy doses of Sim. To me the less MMO(RPG)-like it is, the better, since I have never played one of those that I liked. ![]() |

Re: Simulation vs MMO
Grind-schmind, JumpGate used to be a lot of fun. I hope JumpGate Evolution will be even more fun. I'm used to being disappointed though.

Re: Simulation vs MMO
One thing we can all agree on, anyone who's a purist wont be satisfied with ANYTHING. If they added new graphics to Jumpgate Classic and left everything else alone, a lot of people wouldn't be satisfied anyway, the truth is, it barely stayed open, and yes, they crippled it with no advertising from the start, but Jumpgate Evolution will be better, and prettier and have more people. Just think, guys, dozens of freighters flying everywhere instead of 1-2 and new people with the same, kill or be killed attitude the pirates have always had. It will be something for everyone, but nothing for the purists, sorry to say, but I think it will sell, and a lot of people will stay for a while, and even pirates can see the gain there.

Re: Simulation vs MMO
You're right, Chaser. I hard someone last night complaining about the new, more realistic asteroid graphics (which were added to Jumpgate Classic a couple of years ago).
My hope is that Jumpgate Evolution is big enough (space and population-wise) that there are opportunities for just about every style of gameplay -- perhaps where groups of people/squads can even establish their own metagame. |
