Well, at one point they said it'll mainly be a graphics update....then it was said that the economy will get some much needed changes, if not a burly overhaul.

What they have released at this point could very well be only the tip of the iceberg (or is it the tip of Emma, you know, the tip that always seems to catch your wing as you fly by?)

What I hope they do NOT do is setup asteroid fields to look like giant C's in space....that is one thing that I absolutely hate in EVE. They way they have roids setup now in Jumpgate Classic seems more realistic in that they are primarily random.

Also, having Scorch answer so many requests and also interact in other discussions brings back memories of the ND boards during beta. 'It's a good thing'. But it also takes him away from work....

My only suggestion right now is to higher 8 more workers for the project to roughly double their talent pool, then take a swim around the Jumpgate milkshake and come up with the game that will make even the boldest critic drool.

And during that time, weekly updates would just about wrap up any jittery hands that might remain....all the way up to beta.

Since Scorch is more focused on the business manager side of things (as I understand it), it's somewhat less likely that talking with us goobers is going to negatively effect things too much.

As for what they said, again as per my understanding, Jumpgate Evolution is an entirely separate thing from what was previously mentioned towards the end of last year, and replaced the original '06 plans. The stuff mentioned in '06 was revamping Jumpgate Classic code, not a new code environment entirely.

Re: so Netdevil, how much is already set in stone for Jumpgate Evolution?

While I dont know the status of Jumpgate Evolution design plans, I would hope they would be rebuilding the game from the ground up. A lot of the design is very old and today's players might not like how shallow in depth it became. IE: Get blown up, go find specific gear, refit, get blown up....etc etc.

There was no real logistics in the game since players could strip stations.

There was no real ship design decisions needed except if you were ammo or laser user...just fit the "best".

There was no real trading system where pilots could sell their own products acquired at set market prices. There just was matter farming (and there will be in Jumpgate Evolution if they take this simplistic trading model again...if not with Matter, with something else).

Re: so Netdevil, how much is already set in stone for Jumpgate Evolution?

Its hard to post too many specifics because with some game systems we really don't know yet. Until we play test them with both new and old users we don't know whats staying and what needs to be changed. Our first goal was to get the graphics engine updated, while still backwards compatible on as many machines as possible, and that is nearly complete. Also, we wanted to get the AI system completely revamped which is now done, but as we come up with new things the system needs to do we will be constantly updating it. We have done a big pass on the UI in space to make navigating, finding targets, completing missions and in general usability as clear as possible. This gives us a very beautiful, fast and stable base to build new game changes on top of. As we re-activate each game system we will keep you up to date with our discussions but having all the ideas from the boards helps us with where to start on top of our own thoughts of what needs to change.

Thanks for the post Scorch, I too hope things work out...and its great you are reading the board. Having Dev's active in the community is the real fuel for creativity outside the company.

Funny to think we get more input about a game still in production that needs improvement on external boards than we did from a game in play that needed improvement on their own boards.

I LOL

I think its been stated that jossh as we know it is about to change for the new game. They prolly have all resources devoted to their current projects and Jumpgate Classic is on ice until Jumpgate Evolution is released.

I really think what's being missed here is that they obviously want to make a game their way, for their fans. Hence there is no publisher, no outside money influencing the final product. We are the people who love Jumpgate, and we are the fans that will pay the bills when Jumpgate Evolution releases. Asking the question, "What shouldn't we discuss because it's set in stone or won't be touched in this update?" seems to be getting the answer, "Nothing." They want to hear it all! Ideas from the color of the UI to the specifics of conflux AI are all fair game.

Even if they have made up their minds about something, say for example Captial Ships not being in Jumpgate Evolution, what's to keep us from changing their minds? They want to make a game for US! So if every single Jumpgate Evolution discussion thread on every single forum they read has the fans begging for Cap Ships don't you think that would cause them to take a moment to reconsider their position?

In conclusion I believe nothing is off limits. No feature is to crazy or to mundane to be discussed all the way up to the release date, or even after.

(EDIT: This is what I get for not paying attention and quoting/replying before I get to the end of a thread. My response is now completely outdated and superseded by previous posts. Thank you again Scorch for being so involved with your community. Oh, and sorry Wild_Bill for now quoting you out of context.)
