The problem with setting the OS to mono is that then you also lose the ability to listen to the normal stereo effects that are already included.

True, but why would anyone ever bother with the technology of having someone's voice over a communication device come from a certain direction?

What I'd really like to see is to be able to output voice chat through one output (headset) and output sounds/music through another (speakers). Alternately a setting that would "auto-mute" the sound and music when someone speaks. Preferably with a slider to set what % to drop the "non-voice" sounds by.
You can do these things with Teamspeak so I don't see why the integrated system would be less.

lol I never knew I could mute or reduce the in-game volume when someone in TS talks, I'll have to check that out. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah, you can separately have the TS send output to the headset device instead of the sound card device.

Ohh, that I knew. That's what I do with it, I have the sound from TS on the headset and the games on the speakers. I was thinking along the lines of the auto-mute function since then I could have both outputs in one spot.

Nowhere close. Jumpgate Classic will end up being better anyway, so if you want to play -- the game is up now.
