So quiet
Things sure have gotten quiet here on all Jumpgate fronts. Even with some decent numbers online over last weekend the Jumpgate Classic boards here and on JOSSH have been pretty quiet.
I can't access the CM boards from work (blocked by Websense) and when I have "Jumpgate time" in the evenings I want to spend it playing not reading thread after thread of the same old crap. Anything interesting going on there? |

Re: So quiet
There's news of a G4 interview with some in-game video. They say the person being interviewed was from CM not NetDevil, and didn't do a very good job of answering questions, but some said the videos were great. Others said that they only reinforced their fears that the game is being turned into something other than Jumpgate. Things mentioned: Flying is too easy, no sign of a 1st person view, docking is automatic, someone even said you bounce off of asteroids, but I haven't seen the video to know if that actually happened or not. I think we are in the same (web cens)orship situation, so I have to resort to using my Blackberry for getting my Jumpgate news fix.

Re: So quiet
There is 1st person, I'm sure of that and there is mention of a video that supports it. As far as teh bouncing goes, I heard that too and all I remember reading from ND was that it was based on mass/shield, and thats one thing we've known for quite awhile, that you wont die on the first roid encounter... but that depending on that mass/shield you will suffer ship damage, in what form and extent... no clue.
Of the rest, not much to say. Quite honestly, Jumpgate Evolution forums are quite dead imo, I havent seen a post from known Jumpgate Classic folks in quite awhile. You also dont see the kind of action that the forums had when they were hosted by ND. ELP |

Re: So quiet
First person definitely exists. I've flown it. But there was no cockpit graphic or HUD to speak of. I understand why the videos out there are done in 3rd person (and, I believe, in the flight-assist mode). The two together make things look completely arcade-ish. But unless things have changed dramatically, the un-assisted flight mode is identical to Jumpgate Classic except you feel like you're flying slow because everything is so HUGE.
Auto-dock -- pretty much true for the core stations. Ir was my understanding that manual docking was gong to be required at some places like POSes and factories. Roid-bounce -- Scorch has said this was something that they would balance in beta. They definitely want to move away from "auto-death" upon impact at any significant speed (unfortunately). |

Re: So quiet
Well I could see adding a bit more "forgiveness" so that miners or beacon tuners moving at relatively low speeds are not over-penalized for small mistakes. But I'm sorry -- if you're going 100v or better and slam into something solid, the ship should be "totaled" (IMO).

Re: So quiet
Right now in Jumpgate Classic you can hit a 'roid at 30v with a Warden or Guardian shield and expect to come away with no more than shield damage (yeah, you KNOW how I found that out!) The higher your speed or mass, the greater the damage. I'm with Ambrosius though. 100v should be "KABOOOMM!"

You mean avoiding hitting objects, Right? I too would like to see a bit more impact forgiveness under 100v |

![]() I too feel like anything over 100v should be a spectacular explosion. At 10v, maybe your shields flicker and take some damage, at 50v perhaps you take 75% shield damage, and at 90v you take 100% shield damage and a whole lot of armor damage. I feel like this mechanic should be similar to fall damage in other MMO's, lighter ships will have lighter shields, but less mass/momentum so the damage should scale to be a similar percentage as that of a heavy ship with massive shields and lots of mass/momentum. |
