And then there was Rollio, though his skillset was of a different kind. Only -DSA- was starting to get close with their steadily improving teamwork but they trained by themselves and by fighting against us. With equal numbers there was no squad on either server that could match Nazgul, period.
At the end I remember DSA, OMEGA, and some other pilots being able to inflict casualties on us (well, not you luke) and while they wouldn't necessarily win the fight, it was a far cry from the same squad that took down 16 OEC with 3 pilots (no losses) back in beta. Granted everything from the shield increase to the uber-tensity to scout pack support played some roll in that as well.

... but no, I can't recall ever getting our ass handed to us (losing with equal numbers)

Have you ever been on Voice Comms with Rix? Some of the best laughing I've ever done. Yes he was ego filled, but at the same time, you could easily piss him off just by saying "eh"

yes, i've been on TS with Rix many times.

He doesn't hold a candle to NatGun/Berzerker/Liet/G.Rasp as far as making me laugh.

I'm just stating facts here, I'm not having a go. Anyone that PvP'ed in beta had 500 easy targets for the 1st year+ of retail. I think it is only fair or people that were not there that read these kind of threads to get a balanced view.
I've posted somewhere before that you guys were very good at what you did. I've never questioned that. You were indeed very good for back then.

Re: Top 5 most influential pilots of Jumpgate Classic

A major portion of our targets were in beta with us or even before us (like me, I only joined mid beta). We played for uhhh, dunno, 3 years or retail? Beta wasn't 15 years of training, it was a few short months with different settings too. It took like a fricken month of work to level up to a fighter too.

Re: Top 5 most influential pilots of Jumpgate Classic

Not sure if anyone remembers him, but there was a pilot by the name of Ulysses. I remember him for being the first pilot who was specifically targeted by all solrain pilots during a Wake siege because he was too deadly to be left alone. I remember hopping in my light fighter, launching out and targeting him as well I could, feeling the thrill of actually helping in a fight. When he turned and shot at me just before he podded, I was scarred out of my fucking mind.

That guy made me want to be a better pilot, to be someone that was targeted because he posed a threat.

Other than that, its the standard list of villains.

Ixholla for EEA and general dickery
Rollio for supreme dickery
Nazgul/name du jour for being the jocks of piracy

Can't think of any good guys who managed serverwide influence. Seems like it was easiest to gain notoriety through inviting contempt.
