Re: Top 5 most influential pilots of Jumpgate Classic
Alright, i'll do my 5 most influential -
1) Primate (EU) - Guy was a sim master but would never fight in space. I finally convinced him to join Nazgul and he didn't like the way we picked fights. He'd complain about our occasional civ kills. Then something happened and he went on a killing spree from SC to OC to QC, killing anything that moved. We had to convince him to stop killing. At the time he was unkillable in a intensity (the size 3 pp one). 2) Iorm (EU) - I had just joined Jumpgate and was running around doing missions at level 10 or so. Iorm had just engaged some -eF- with his buddy jockster and were taunting them on f3 as the -ef- guys couldn't dodge missile spam. Made me laugh and I wished I could be him. I went on to scout for them a bit, mad me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. 3) MadMonkey (EU) - Leader of Praetorianer, EU's version of OEC. He killed my buddy enforcing there beacon policy. This is my "turned me to the dark side" PvP guy, I went in there afterwords and got in my first PvP fight. Turned out to be more bark than bite, musta POD'd him a dozen times afterwords, never did wack me. Pretty much led to the first time EU saw server wars. 4) Rollio - Made us try new tactics to kill him, pushed us to be bigger than 6 pilots. One example - We had him trapped at TicTacs hook. We knew he'd be all ff's in his modx, so we put a nazgul at TicTacs, another at Quadrangle and Quanus Crossing, and at Callows and DarkEnd so by the time he'd use up his ff's we still have a guy waiting for him in sector. Another example: I got fed up with his civing new quants, so I declared war on all sol newbies. It got QC attacked by every sol on the server... I had everyone from ekoo to my own guys yelling at me on f4. It did result in my real goal, getting the first anti-griefing rule implemented by 3DO. 5) Rostam - He actually got me to practice trying to be as good as him. Never got there, but it kept me better than 99% of the server. Honorable mention: -PJ-. He called me out on f1 for a dual back in EU at Wake. I was all the way down at TicTacs so we went back and forth verbally as I flew all the way there with Rostam and Radagast. By the time I got there, the whole server was in the sector to watch (there wasn't much action back then, pretty early in EU beta) with about 50+ pilots in sector. I wacked him, but he knew he was going down, got us both pretty good names (and Nazgul) on the server. Since he knew he was going to lose, he paid two guys to kill me after i was damaged in the fight. haha. Rostam and Radagast took care of them. Honourable Mention: Karash, he ran a tight RP ship over there, and it caused us (well, me to push anyways) Nazgul in a anti-RP direction, running a "bunch of freelance pvp-jock a**holes" route of an RP instead of emulating some militaristic structured route. |

Re: Top 5 most influential pilots of Jumpgate Classic
Hmm... this is tricky!
Let's see... 1) Delerium - this is the guy that got me started PvPing when I joined the Syndicate way back when. I still remember my first kill was Rix and I was in the Sol LF FFed up behind him and took one shot and he blew up lol 2) Tritian - after a short while in Syndicate I realized that the factionalist life wasn't for me. I was flying around Solrain space when I ran into Tritian with a massive bounty and asked him about it/talked to him for a little while and decided that I wanted to join Pay or Die. Eventually I did join but sadly by then most of them had moved onto Neocron. Kronic was pretty much the only one that flew regularly, though others hopped on now and again. 3) Ridgeway - After a short period of time in PoD I was sorta tired of being on by myself so I left and joined up with ISU because I thought there RP was awesome, Ridgeway was a fantastic leader and a great teacher. He really helped me learn PvP and there were many fun times flying with the guys in ISU. 4) Zaltys/Hadur/Nicator - not many people were quite at his level. He understood the PvP aspect of this game better than most and was really good at passing that knowledge to other players. 5) Gent - after flying with him in the Weekend of War I found him to be one of the most enjoyable and fun pilots to fly with. He just makes everything so damn entertaining ![]() |

Re: Top 5 most influential pilots of Jumpgate Classic
Good question.....there are so many influentials but here's my list:
Valen - The best and most committed Solrain battle commander I ever flew against. Valen and (SOL) Navy defended the interests of Solrain with honor and deadly purpose. Russian - My own squad Captain (The Gang). He knew exactly how to make big money with the Pirate RP without griefing anyone. Also, there are so many battles where The Gang was outnumbered and Russian kept us alive against impossible odds. Russian took a group of mostly "average" PvPers (with some notable exceptions) and turned us into one of the most powerful and feared squads on the server. He was simply a brilliant battle commander, the best I've ever seen in any game I've ever played. Tesrend - When I think of Quantar warrior commanders Tes is the first name to pop into my head. He and his pilots were among the best I've ever flown against. Ridgeway - The MS blockade was great. Since the devs couldn't or wouldn't take this overpowered weapon out of service Ridgeway and ISU did it themselves. I can still remember when Russian announced to us that The Gang was hired to attack ISU and end the MS blockade. We were all supportive of what ISU was doing and we weren't happy about attacking them but hey...boss said to fight and business is business so we fought them hard. Alphabet - Personally, one of the best guys I've met in any game. We were enemies but Alph always conducted himslef with honor.....he pretty much represents what you'd want any gamer you are fighting with or against to be like. Xerout |

Re: Top 5 most influential pilots of Jumpgate Classic
Saw Innominate's name here quite a few times...he is playing Eve these days with a metagame group called Goonswarm, it fits him to the T. Luckily I am on the other side shooting them...and its always nice to see his name come up on our killboards. Every time it makes me want to do a shot of whiskey in celebration for what he did to the Tensity start of retail.

Re: Top 5 most influential pilots of Jumpgate Classic
First time I ever met a Nazgul was Dong52 and he told me to prepare to die. Ended up beating him and upon entering Outpost Station sector I ran into JackOften and he let me dock before we fought. Beat him and then I was supposed to meet Hand at Wake but Beta ended on the flight over =(

Re: Top 5 most influential pilots of Jumpgate Classic
There were any number of people whining about the Tensy in beta, and Inno was one of them. But in fairness, when the uber-Tensy appeared, Inno and others' reaction was "are they crazy?" . . . followed by "cool!"
The drastic change to the Intensity, occurring between the end of Beta and the beginning of Retail, after a two-plus years of testing and balancing, was one truly bizarre event. |

Re: Top 5 most influential pilots of Jumpgate Classic
It's not like they learned their lesson about radical unbalancing moves before Istvan showed up either. Sz2 Shield Rangers, bombers etc. And that glorious few hours when they decided that doubling flashfire duration was a good idea - the only time I've ever gotten close to mouthing off enough on a forum to get banned.
Not to dwell on the negative - after seeing Istvan's dev blog I'm hopeful that the relative sanity he brought to balance in Jumpgate Classic will apply to Jumpgate Evolution. |

Re: Top 5 most influential pilots of Jumpgate Classic
Everyone was complaining about the Tensy on the good ole red ND boards. Innominate was the only one crazy enough to think they'd put a size 4 PP on the intensity and he begged for it nearly every day. Personally, I was asking for the size 4 engines back
![]() Rumor has it the devs did it just to shut him up. |
