Well done ND
With all this negativity going around, I would just like to say well done to ND for having the sight to try to make a game that will hopefully not only be popular but also protective of the player base, rather than just a niche game.
I hope it works out and you have great success with it this time round. |

Re: Well done ND
And that's the problem, Jumpgate is a niche game. But you don't set out to develop a game for a niche market they sometimes just turn out the way. Jumpgate Evolution has to be targetted at as wide a market as possible, and if that means safe zones, then so be it.

Re: Well done ND
Plenty of games have been successful while filling an initially niche-need. Do you think Wolfenstien wasn't a niche market when it was first developed? They had no idea how a FPS would work out, and it was the first use of a raycasting engine in a computer game. But still it caused a huge sensation.
There is a fine line between niche and revolutionary, and that line is in the implementation. Jumpgate Classic implementation failed by having bad marketing and graphics. It wasn't the games fault it had a niche following. The skilled-based gameplay and flight engine are sound, and those aspects should not be changed. |

Re: Well done ND
well, one thing we all know now, Jumpgate Evolution will have a wider operating base than the old Jumpgate. It's already been said, and with pvp/non pvp options, then a lot of people who are not the "skilled few" pilots might just stay and have a good time mining, or running frieght between station. There will be enough egos around to fill the "we want blast you" crowd, and a lot of new people giving it a try. So maybe this isnt so bad, I say good luck this time, we'll be watching to see how it works out.

Re: Well done ND
But not enough to play it ?. Funny thing is most of the people on here that say they like "our niche game", dont actually play or play very little. which is fine because Jumpgate Classic will aways be there for you.
Now if the only problem is pretty graphics, then Im afraid the ooh look its shiney brigade isnt going to stay around for long because they will see something else that is shiney (like a flame or a reflection in a mirror) and move on. We dont need revolutionary, we need good game play. |

Re: Well done ND
indeed, i would rather have a million people that i cant shoot at than 5 that I can. does that make sense?
as i understand it, the flux will be smarter, so i could join New Dawn and still have fun. |

Re: Well done ND
Once Jumpgate Evolution get's it's very own official forums, I expect everyone to not overreact on their forums if something if being developed in a non-likable way. It's really ok to disagree and express opinions against it in a civil way.

Actually, I was playing Jumpgate Classic just this Friday. I didn't stop playing Jumpgate because it's not fun anymore, I just have less time because of work. When i'm not thinking about interpolating between two Bezier curves, I'm thinking about Jumpgate. ![]() We already have the revolutionary. Jumpgate is revolutionary as it's the first real game of it's kind. We can have better gameplay also, but that doesn't mean we need to compromise the revolutionary aspects of the game that are already in place. |
