What I do and dont like about Jumpgate Evolution.
So I wanted to make a list about things in Jumpgate Evolution that I find cool and things that I dont like..
Remember, I havent played it.. most people havent.. so this is just based on what I seen and heard/read. Cool things: Mining. AI. Capitol Ships. UI. Graphics ofcourse.. Auction house (thats in, right?) Licenses, especially when it comes to manufacturing, so u cant make whatever you want. Things that seem sucky: Bouncy ships. No loss on death. 100% safe zones Forced Factioalism Loot. ARENA instead of just SIM. I dont remember, cant find, if I or someone else made a similar thread.. dont care.. oh, reply with ur own list.. I cant think of more now.. |

Keep an open mind, it's a game and chances are it will be fun. If it achieves just that then I will be happy :P Although, I could be proven completely wrong in which case I will eat a fork. |

I'm not sure it makes sense to pass too much judgement before eally playing (and I have tested the game, but a) it was way early in develpment and b) I think you need to play with lots of people over a period of time to get a real feel). Nonetheless, here are my thoughts:
Things described about mining sound cool, but without actually trying them, I have a hard time getting excited. I would want something that adds skill and challenge to mining. I can't imagine, though, that NetDevil's obsession with "accessibility" is consistent with what I would want to see. Capital Ships -- I read something recently where they would be used in intanced PvP!!! The idea that instanced PvP has any meaning at all is really tragic, and if Cap Ships are ONLY in arena PvP, then I'd hardly put that in the "plus column." And with regard to AI, I have grave concerns about the whole AI hauler thing. If not well-balanced this could be teh suck. Bouncy ships, no loss on death and safe zones remain the absolute worst prospects for the game. Right now I can't imagine Jumpgate Evolution even approaching Jumpgate for pure fun factor. But fun for me ties closely to the simulation aspects and the challenge of the game -- pretty much the antithesis of "accessibility." The more I think about it, the more I believe NetDevil should have made Jumpgate Evolution a completely new space-game title, completely severing connections to Jumpgate . . . maybe something like Spaceship Assault ... ![]() Quote:

Cool things:
More storyline Lateral thrusts Hopefully LOTS of players AI - if the act as they say they do UI - if it can actually be easily modified Economy / Crafting - if there are losses in death, this should become a much more intensive aspect to the game. Negatives: Potential exploits regarding safe areas. Instanced PVP - if gear or xp can be earned in a safe environment, this might be a bad idea My biggest fear is that Jumpgate Evolution will be ruled only by giant 50+ man squads and that the smaller member squads will not be able to affect the game because skill will not play as vital a role as it did in Jumpgate Classic. -Tez |

Good:
- more players - AI - (if it is implemented properly) - mining - better graphics Bad: - factional logos (yuck) - equipment > skill - equipment/level grind - WoW in-space - no loss upon death While I can understand handicap (dampeners) for new players, I have my concerns that it might simplify PvP to point and shoot. I'm not so happy about "cruise" drive either. |

Cant really judge the game's mechanics untull they have been played. Off hand Jumpgate Evolution sounds like it is tailor made for me.
Good: AI-I hope it tries to kill me. Mining Licencing/skill type trees. No loss on death (I think you loose whatever your hauling though) Crafting Loot Instanced encounters PvP games no unconsentual PvP in regulated space. variety of missions random generated campains Voice chat Complex looking ships Pretty sky boxes Large scale of bases compared to ships. Bad: Not being in Alpha test dispite all my begging. |
