when Jumpgate Evolution gets released.

(in the future)

will we be able to see a massive player social interaction with a player created political atmosphere, and roleplayin' events like we saw in the old Jumpgate?

or will the majority of players spend more time fiddling around with npcs and going along with the story & rp events created by the gms, where diehard pvpers on the other hand blow up other pilots from an opposing faction via military tags?

i have no clue if i'm trying to create another discussion that has been done over and over but what got me seriously hooked to the old game back when it had 200 players online, is the first paragraph in the post.

Re: when Jumpgate Evolution gets released.

Id think that this is a wait and see. I of course prefer player driven RP, but would like to see if the GM's storyline is good or what. I worry more about how multifactional squads will work rather than RP at the moment lol.

Death to multifactional squads! Fly for your faction or fly as an outlaw/pirate. Even at that pirate/outlaw IS a faction of a sort.

I'm looking forward to finding out if Jumpgate Evolution will inspire like Jumpgate Classic did.

Re: when Jumpgate Evolution gets released.

I have a feeling that the players will *try* to make their own RP, even if it is mostly ignore like the old Jumpgate Classic, it will still be there.

There was another thread discussing this, and I really hope that ND can find a way to let players interactions effect the overall game RP by using server tools and logs to see whats going on and let that be reflected by the "official rp" GMs.

Re: when Jumpgate Evolution gets released.

Hard to say. I think what made Jumpgate classic that way was that it was designed to be a sandbox of sorts. I mean, sure there was a loose backstory, but the missions were generic, and not story-arcs with plot like a lot of modern MMOs. If you're like me, you think that's part of what made Jumpgate great...and why the phrase "standard for modern MMOs" gives you doubts and worries.

In other MMOs, everyone pretty much has to RP the helpful guy who goes around helping the people with exclamations over their heads. In Jumpgate we asked each other for help, or voluntarily chased down rollio because that's what our characters would do. It's actually easier to role play in a sandbox than it is to role play to someone else's script. For example, in CoH you could tell the 'role players' because they said stupid comic book things while running through the same mission for the 8th time....

Re: when Jumpgate Evolution gets released.

Hopefully a bit of both like the EU server had back in the day. GM created RP aint always bad and can lead to player interaction whereas sometimes player created RP can be insular gameplay.

Just my two-penneth.

Re: when Jumpgate Evolution gets released.

I liked the combo that we had in Jumpgate Classic. Having the GM RP helped keep a consistent forward-moving story, while the player RP added to it. I think it makes it more fun to have GM events and rp going on around you that you or your friends dont have to make all the time.

Re: when Jumpgate Evolution gets released.

as for the multifactional squads that are not always factional, yeah, i hope i can get to see that in jumpgate evolution.

it seems that one of the major multifaction squad got screwed out of the millions of credits when the ep2 patch came when they didn't see it coming.

Re: when Jumpgate Evolution gets released.

i understand that ais will be in Jumpgate Evolution but should they be the minority or something for a person to enjoy in the very short run when it comes to having hundreds of players online where it's expected for players to socially interact with with other players?

Re: when Jumpgate Evolution gets released.

afaik, the AIs will be proportional to the playerbase, the more players, the less AI and vice versa.

Hopefully the mining and hauling AIs will also be proportional to economic need as determined by universal supplies and consumer station supplies.

Re: when Jumpgate Evolution gets released.

Apparently they will be. They are still fine tuning and will continue to do so during beta. It does look good tho.
